The mob

Canberra, the capital of Australia, is my husband’s home town.

image

Where is Canberra? There is Canberra.

Because of it’s unique layout and rural aspect, it is also home to heaps of Kangaroos!

Marsupials in the house!

Many government agencies are headquartered in Canberra, including The Royal Australian Mint.

The Mint as seen from a google maps screen capture.

But what does this mean for ME and for you? 😂

For me it means my husband snuck off to the mint on his recent visit home to get me a sweet Christmas gift! For you (and by you of course I primarily mean members of #ssg), it means silver slabber time. 😂

First.... a box.

Since 1993, the Royal Australian Mint has issued a series of silver coins devoted to kangaroos. Within this grander series, certain annual releases have been linked together under a common theme. The most recent theme, Seasons Change, began in 2016. Each release corresponds to a season on the calendar while depicting a season of life for the Eastern Grey Kangaroo.

This box holds the final edition of the Seasons Change kangaroo series. This four coin run ends in 2019 with the Autumn coin.

Certificate of Authenticity

Coins in the kanagaroo series are minted in very low quantities. While early releases were minted on demand, the mintage is now fixed. Each release is set at 10,000 for frosted uncirculated coins with an additional 5,000 proofs.

Autumn: The life of the joey depicted in the 2016 coins comes full circle in 2019 as she is now shown as mother to her own joey.

This is a proof coin, number 841/5000. It is one ounce and .999 pure with a one dollar face value. The 2019 proof kangaroo is available for purchase for $100AUD ($71USD). The frosted uncirculated version sells for $80AUD ($57USD).

But most importantly.... BABY KANGAROO!!!! 😍❤️

High premium, low premium, trade or gift... if you love it, stack it. No regrets!

A question a child might ask, but not a childish question.... 🤔 😂🤣

You not answering that incase it incriminates you.

Lets just say you where happy too see both 😁

Very nice!

Canberra is also the home town of my wife! I also spent many years studying at ANU.

You did?!!! She is Canberran too?!!! 😃

I lived there from 2002-2007. ☺️ I’ve been to a few concerts at the ANU bar! My husband grew up in Flynn (belconnen). After we got married we lived in Palmerston before I convinced him to move back to the US where I am from. ☺️

Yes, she grew up in the Belconnen side... But I lived on Campus. I think we left around 2003 of something like that! I love the place, I would live there again!,

Were you still there for the massive fire? That was Jan. 2003.

It amazes me how much Canberra has grown. Huge new suburbs where before there was only pastures and bushland. It is crazy. Especially in gungahlin. Our woolies used to have a dirt car park and was literally on the edge of town. Now there is a mini mall, apartments, restaurants, huge roads, they are putting in a light rail.... it’s nuts.

Look At You @dfinney another ROO in the Pouch .................

This is very likely the world’s greatest gif.

That’s a beautiful looking coin Dfinn....👍

Thanks @silverd510. It is much fancier than I would have gotten myself. Of course now I am tempted to try to get the winter, spring and summer roos! 🤣😄

I only visited Canberra once but really liked it there, and even saw a few Kangaroos while there

Thats a real cool coin

Canberra is cuter than most Australians give it credit for. I lived there for a few years and never got tired of the kangaroos. I love their faces. Gorgeous little creatures. 😍

they are such interesting creatures indeed i was fascinated and watched them for ages I must admit
