Inspired by @movingman 'expeditions' to Numisma Mynthandel shop i decided to take a visit myself yesterday. Numisma Mynthandel has been around since 1985 and is one of the largest coin traders in Norway. The store looks kind of old fashioned from the outside in a sweet way. As i was window shopping i saw the owner standing outside smoking his pipe. He was kind of the archetypal person you would hope to find running a store like this, in his sixties, big white beard smoking a pipe! He politely invited me to take a look inside which i did. What a cozy place it was! In the middle of the shop were showcases containing coins and medals of various eras. What i was looking after though was small silver bullions.
At the present moment they only had one type/size of bullion available. One ounce silver from 'Den Norske Myntverket' and that was what i bought. Here is what it looks like:
On the shiny front side is the logo of the producer along with a serial number. Curiously enough there is no weight indication engraved on the bullion! This mini piece is measuring 5x3x0.5 cm and is placed into a plastic case. It is tempting to take it out of the case but that change the grading from 'mint' to 'proof' (although i am not 100% percent sure about that). I'll probably try to find something that is sold without a casing to begin with.
The back side looks like this:
As you can see there is a matt finish on the back side with minimal info engraved. The letters Ag are the chemical symbol for silver and 999 denotes the purity of the silver (999/1000.)
I have no idea what the letter chi in a 'circle' mean. If anyone knows please comment.
How much did i pay? 200 NOK which is around 20 euro/22 usd. This is a higher price than expected due to the 25% added tax and a bit of seller profit. One ounce silver bars start from around 185 nok online (Edit:that is before tax and sending costs though!)
The shop owner mentioned that new stuff arrive constantly so i think i'll be checking in again soon!
Awesome! Was that your first silver purchase ever? They are really cool in that shop and thanks for some history on the place too 😊
They do have a constant selection of things, and also forgien silver rounds at the casse.
Are you Norwiegen by the way? I never asked this before!

Yeah that was my first silver purchase! I have some experience with silver from before though. When i was a kid i used to collect coins (it was 'fashionable' at the time for children to have a collection, usually coinage or stamps.) Friends and relatives would give me outlandish foreign coins they had no use for. I thinks i got some silver ones in that way! Visiting 'Mynthadel' brought back some memories.
Moreover, that place is dangerous! It would be so easy to get carried away and spend a lot of money!
I am not Norwegian but have made my nest in Norway for some time now!
Btw drop me a line if you want to grab a cup of coffee and discuss silver, crypto etc ([email protected])

Theres 6.6million max in population so less tax farming options, if there was 60million in this huge country, then maybe it wouldnt be so much.
Sad thing is that what digi paid for that silver, is equivelent to a 20 pack of smokes and a lighter 😂😂😂 so the tax means nothing really on the silver.
I get tax free ciggs because tax is theft, especially when 30g of rolling tobaco without chemicals is costing 30usd in a shop!
