We have all heard and most likely hear the old saying "every cloud has a silver lining" it is a saying used when trying to find a happy point in a bad situation, it references that there is always something good in everything. an old saying like this is know as an Aphorism according to the Dcitionary

The saying has a few points of origin:

A huge black cloud generally blocks the sun fight and makes the atmosphere appear dull and dark. But on closer observation, we will find the sun rays trying to peep through the sides of the cloud, creating a fine silver lining all around the edges of the cloud. Similarly in life, we all go through bad phases. But something good always comes out of even a bad situation. That is the silver lining of a rough patch. Here the dark clouds are compared to bad times that we face in life.

It has been said that John Milton's 1634 poem "Comus," which includes the line, "Was I deceived? or did a sable cloud/Turn forth her silver lining on the night?" was the beginning of the popularity of the saying.

The first occurrence that is unequivocally expressing that notion comes in The Dublin Magazine, Volume 1, 1840, in a review of the novel Marian; or, a Young Maid's Fortunes, by Mrs S. Hall, which was published in 1840:

As Katty Macane has it, "there's a silver lining to every cloud that sails about the heavens if we could only see it."
