For paper Gold and Silver traded on the stock market, technically you can ask for delivery of physical or settle in cash. But most don't ask for delivery as those people want to trade and speculate on the price only so electronic or paper form is preferred, and people who want to hold physical precious metals can buy from the coin shops or online dealers
