The Celtic Lore Series Round #2 The Morrigan

in steemsilvergold •  6 years ago

Welcome to D Wings World fellow precious metal Steemians!! We are back at the awesome Celtic Lore Series from Provident Metals. Time for the second round in the series The Morrigan! As I stated previously, all these rounds had a limited mintage of 2000 each and came in three different finishes antiqued, proof, and colorized.(NOTE: I misspoke in my previous post in adding a BU finish.) All the examples I show are proof. Each round is 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver and they all share a reverse design, which you can see below.

The reverse depicts a traditional Celtic knotting around the rim with two wolves looking inward toward the Celtic shield in the center. I find that the font used in the name of the series at the top of the round and the weight and grade of silver at the bottom was a perfect choice!

Again, the gorgeous artwork of Howard David Johnson is beautifully presented on the front the COA. I enjoy how strong the artist has presented The Morrigan. She was known as the Queen of Battles and is the Celtic goddess of war. She was said to have the ability to shapeshift into a crow and she would fly over battlefield. Very well crafted and detailed in the round showing the goddess weildng a war axe, watching over the battle, and surrounded by a murder of crows.

The back of the COA list all the details of this beautiful round from its title, the illustrator, series creator, and the mintage numbers. I was lucky enough to get number 221 of 2000. I have posted a guest hosting I did of the YouTube channel The Coin Couch featuring this round. Please take a look.

I appreciate you taking the time to view my content and please remember to upvote, resteem, and reply! I will be posting the third round of this series shortly and hope you will check it out!!

Very nice!! I've heard of Merlin, for sure, but not Morrigan.

Merida is probably the only other Celtic lady I heard of.... due to Disney.

Out of the series I would say three are well known of and two including The Morrigan are lesser. I think this was why they lead with Merlin. He is well known and drew people in but then you have the chance to inform people about other figures in Celtic mythos.
I like Merida and Brave actually lol. You know that its set on 10th century Scotland because its the last time there were bears there. Thanks for the great reply!

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

No I say thank you to you guys!! Keep it awesome @ssg-community!!

These are really cool pieces. I must admit, I'd be tempted to display the celtic knot side though. I've always loved the way those look. Calls out to my irish heritage i suppose.

Thanks for sharing! Going to need to keep an eye out for these designs.

I agree that the Celtic knot design is wonderful and very happy they worked in the traditional wolf head design. Image that inlayed on the hilt of your claymore going into battle it would be epic! I too often want to display the reverse of the rounds. I usually pick on and flip it a week or so then another as to showoff the whole set. Another good option are the frames that display the rounds in a clear silicone membrane so both sides are visable from Linder. Thanks for taking the time to look!!

Very cool, we have a couple from that series as well. We ended up picking up the colored version. Thanks for sharing!

@beyeridgedesigns that is awesome! How did the color translate onto the round? Is it a smooth transition or fuzzy? I like how they look online but when I have dealt with some colorized ones in hand they just dont seem as crisp. Which ones did you end up getting buddy? Thanks for stopping in!!

Very cool series to collect brother. I have the mythical creature series.

I think it is very cool as well @stackinag47!! I lookes into the mythical creatures series as well about the same time they released these so I had to chose. I ended up going with these and am still extremely happy with the series. Thanks so much for taking a look buddy!

I gotta meet this Girl, could sit down for tea, compare notes and chat a bit.

@kerrislravenhill , indeed I do think that she would enjoy that! Would love to see that battle axe up close and on nuetral ground lol. Thanks for your support!!
