A quick post for new stackers

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago

Hi all,
I've noticed a lot more new stackers around here lately, that's awesome! I thought I could share a small bit of "wisdom" with you all.

I've been a stacker for a while now, and a "treasure hunter" of sorts all my life. I love yard sales, thrift shops, auctions etc. And I really love gold and silver, especially well below spot price.

Here's a few things new stackers tend to overlook when they start out. All of these items were purchased at least 10% under spot, but most were around 50% of spot price! These are my thrift shop and junk sale finds from last year.

Gold - all either 10k or 14 k

Silver, lots of little trinkets, and broken chains. All sterling (92.5%)

This was the find of the year. 80% silver coins from the Netherlands, made into a bracelet.

So all that was bought way under spot for the most part, and is probably the cheapest way that I've found to accumulate gold and silver.

So get out there and snatch up all the cheap gold and silver you can!

Good strategy I should start visiting the local spots more often.

Every city has somewhere that all the old gold goes when people don't need it anymore, lol

The Netherlands bracelet is dope 👍😎 Keep stacking that scrap my friend. If you get it for the right lroce it's a no brainer. U got enough to cash it in for a shiny gold piece?

I think I have enough scrap for that, but I kinda wanted to make a little nugget bar from the gold jewelry. I have a little crucible, just need to carve a wood pour mold and go to the shop! The silver I figure I have maybe 10 oz?

Please post the prices you paid as well. It is not super private, and it would add to the intrigue!

I can't be sure, but I always take a pocket scale and loupe with me so I never pay too much. The coin bracelet I remember was about $10.00 cad. One of my most recent was the figaro 10K chain, was about $30.00 if I remember right? I'm not sure if the coins could be safely deslodered, but it's definitely worth more than that! Cheers

That bracelet is seriously badass, King.

Thanks Mike! That one will not be going to the smelter any time soon! It's part of the stack now!

nice bracelet with the coins, pretty sweet

Thanks

Beautiful collection you got there! Smart idea:)

Thanks jentz44

Great idea.

Very kool fat-elvis! awesome bracelet from coins. Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Thanks russiebear!

Great info, even for us veterans. I gotta start keeping a closer eye at thrift stores etc.

It's something that I enjoy as well, if you don't enjoy it, you'll never go! Kinda like metal detecting. For me it's the thrill of the hunt!

great tips, i love finding silver in the charity shops! :)

Yes sir! I didn't mention spoons. There's lots of silver spoons out there if you can spot the right hallmarks. Lots of hallmarked silver plated spoons as well though.

My bro picks up 925 sometimes and I have melted it into bars for him. Gold also he has a nice 14k bar. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for reading Mr. V! I have the ideal to do a wood pour gold bar, lol, been thinking about it for a while, and reading and watching home melting videos, haven't had the nerve to take a torch to jewelry yet though!
