5 Coins of the Chinese Zodiac

in steemsilvergold •  6 years ago

So I went and dug some more of my stuff out so I could post it tonight.

Just five pieces. It would be more than this be I admittedly was a little late to the whole Chinese Zodiac game and just started picking them up in 2014. These are the Perth Mint half ounce coins. i really enjoy them for their clean designs. I think they look much better in the smaller half ounce size than they do the larger sizes. The finish that Perth gets on these coins is pretty unreal as well.

First up we have the 2014 Year of the Horse:

This is probably my favorite out of the bunch, I don't know if it is because it was my first or if the design just has more going for it? It isn't my zodiac year though.

Secondly we have the 2015 Year of the Goat:

Nothing special here, just a solid coin all around and honestly, no offense, but goat is a little lackluster.

Thirdly we have our 2016 (see the pattern) Year of the Monkey:

Again a solid coin but the design feels a little.....empty? But monkey is back into interesting territory, at least!

Fourth we have the 2017 Year of the Rooster:

While again a domesticated animal is nothing exciting I feel as if the designers took full advantage of the coins field in this case. I think the added foliage really is a nice touch.

And lastly we have this years coin, 2018 Year of the Dog:

A solid coin yet again, a bit bland in design and subject, although who doesn't love dogs! This is the sign for my birth year. Does it say anything about me? I'm not the one to say........

Well, I do hope to keep picking these up as they come out until I have all 12.....maybe a little backtracking wouldn't hurt either.

How does everyone feel about the half ounce size? I know when dealing with metals bigger is better but I can always get a full ounce from any variety of places covering all subjects...Just thought this was a neat size for this coin.

Here is one to the Perth Mints wiki, they make great stuff, imo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perth_Mint
