My chase for dragon continues, and here is a new Chinese dragon pair!
A 2018 coin, minted by the New Zealand mint apparently (I did not know there was one), under the authority of Niue. I guess it makes sense since New Zealand is probably the nearest country to this tiny little island nation.
The details of the dragon are fantastic! The scallop rim design around the coin seems to look like ocean waves, so perhaps the dragons are playing over the water around Niue island. The background is 'bubble-like', perhaps caused by the stir of water. Chinese dragons usually are in the sky so perhaps these are water dragons. These wavy scallop design is also on the reverse, which features QEII.
Between the dragons, below the dragon pearl, is the Chinese character of dragon (pronounced as 'lóng' in Chinese).
More dragons to share next time!
