This was an impulse buy and is most definitely not something a stacker would ever buy! Sit down guys & gals, this coin bar set me back about $85 an Oz!
This set is to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Krugerrand and produced by the South African Mint in a reverse proof in .999 Silver. It comprises of a 2oz bar and 1oz coin - I believe the coin pops out of the bar, but I haven't attempted to remove it as its cased in a holder. It features the famous portait of Kruger and a Springbok on the reverse.
For the cost per Oz you would want this to be beautifully presented and it certainly is, and contained in a felt line wooden display box with C.O.A.
This has a limited mintage of just 5,000 but actually hasn't performed short term as well as I had hoped for such an iconic well known coin. You can pick this up cheaper now than when I obtained it.
I took a punt on this because it is the 3rd in a series, and the Chinese Panda Coin Bar has slightly increased its value but to date this hasn't matched the Pandas success. Definitely a forced long term hold!
What's your most expensive ounce of silver and do you regret it?
I paid $75 for a Kruggo and love it — i actually got three of ‘em, but gave my bro one for his birthday — he turned 50 in Dec (2017). But my most expensive ounce was the 1oz Perth mint Lunar Dragon (2012) that i think i shelled out $85 cad for. And no... zero regrets. Although i only bought one of ‘em. I have since bought some 1/2’s just ‘cause the design is so choice.

I'm going to Pretoria on Sunday and plan to visit the South African Mint during my visit. I have noticed the premium at the mint is quite high. Is this set still available, it looks like a great collectable. When silver rises to over $100/ounce, this debate will be forgotten, but this set is not one to part with.

Yes, its still widely available from a lot of European bullion dealers like coininvest, and i've seen these on Ebay frequently.

Yep, difficult to see but its top left hand corner. I love the design too and was going to get a proof initially but a few videos I saw of the packaging & delivery put me off.
