Another crown sized coin to add to my collection is an Egypt 20 Piastres from 1917.
These were minted in 1916 & 1917 and at the time Egypt was a British Protectorate hence the coin has dates & legends in Arabic as well as English. 1917 has roughly half the mintage of 1916 variety.
The denomination on this is 20 Piastres which is 1/5th of an Egyptian Pound. The other denominations 2, 5 & 10 have identical designs to this.
I love the old world look of this coin, infact I have the complete set of Egyptian coinage from that year, which set me back around £150 total in good grades.
This coin can be found faily regularly on Ebay although usually in worse worn grades. This example cost me £30 and is probably mid-range grade. A top notch grade would probably set you back £200+
There is a 1920 dated coin like this that is very similar but very scarce. I once had one in very worn condition and sold it for £65.
This coin weighs 28g and is made of .833 Silver.

It is always nice to have a crown sized lump of silver, a lot of the arabic silver gets mistaken so can be snapped up for a bargain on flea markets and carboot sales
