What we have here today is a very nice looking 1933 1/2 crown from New Zealand . On January 12 1933 the US Congress recognizes independence for Philippines . On March 6th 1933 US President Franklin Roosevelt issues Executive Order 6260 , prohibiting further release of gold coins , forbidding private citizens holding gold coins or paper money redeemable in gold , ordering all to turn in gold coins and bullion . The US government suspends convertibility of paper money to gold , and forbids export , holding , and transactions in gold on April 20 after President Franklin Roosevelt announced the US would leave the gold standard the day before . Today's coin was minted by the Royal Mint , London , in 1933 along with approx. 2,000,000 others . It was struck of 50% silver , weighs 14.1 grams , and is 32 mm in diameter by 2 mm thick .
The obverse features a robed and crowned King George V facing left surrounded by the words GEORGE V KING EMPEROR
The very complex reverse of this coin shows the New Zealand Shield of Arms with Maori designs on either side , the Southern Cross , a sheaf of wheat on the left , a lamb suspended by a ribbon , and crossed mining hammers on the right , with 3 ships in between and the Royal Crown above . The legend NEW·ZEALAND HALF·CROWN ·1933· surrounds all .
The edge of this coin is reeded .

Yes, it is a little crowded, but I like the design. Of course everything in the shield have a meaning but I can't even imagine what a lamb suspended by a ribbon could mean...
