Full Collection of 1oz Australia Koala Silver Coins!

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago

Hey guys this is my last day of the 1 week showcase of Silver I liberated from my safe. I do have way more stuff that I'll continue to show off down the road, but there were certainly some great things to look at over the last week, if you missed them go ahead and take a second look. It was also alot of fun for me to admire and photograph my silver. To me I do really like admiring and sharing it. Most of my collection is semi-numismatics, and I don't have a lot of generic stuff just for weight.

Anyways on with the Koalas

These have always been one of my favorites to collect. Koala's are cute and the series just started in 2007, making them relatively easy to collect and not cost prohibitive. The first two years (above) 2007 and 2008 command a bit of a premium at approx 50USD, otherwise most of the rest can be found for under $30.

The first 4 years had a slightly different design with very minimal words on the reverse, only having the 1oz .999 Silver. Otherwise the date was on the obverse and there was no mention of them being koalas.

This changed here in 2011, when they transitioned to the design we know today. With the year and fineness stamping centered on bottom of the reverese and Australia Koala centered on a band along the top. The image of the koala changes every year, occasionally being pictured with a young koala as well. The one thing that has been constant is that it is always pictured with a tree or clinging to a stick.

Even in 2014 above when it was only the zoomed image of the koala's face they still managed to incorporate some leaves and when it was on the ground in 2017 it wasn't very far from it's tree. They were minted on demand until 2016 when they had a set maximum mintage of 300, 000. I rhyme off all the mintage figures for each year in the accompanying video, there are also lots of great close ups on the coins if you are interested.

Hope you enjoyed these coins and my showcase for the last week

nice ones, I always liked the perth coins,

very nice herd of koalas i dont have any yet, you showed them off well theres a few i really like, but a few look a bit strange lol :)

Ive always neglected collecting the koalas and still have 4 ealier ones missing but the 300k fixed mintage does make them more appealing.

Gorgeous. Coins look good too! Jokes aside, how wonderful to pull out these pieces to rediscover their beauty and showcase them to others. Part of what I love about stacking!

This is a great set of Koalas. I haven't followed Koalas for a long time, so this really helps me to see a lot of different Koalas. Thanks.
