SILVER MAPLE LEAFS

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago

Well, I was off yesterday, so it was time to find some silver deals. Went to several different pawn shops, most where either low or had sold out of silver, WONDER WHY THAT IS? So there is a little town about 30 miles from where I live, so I tried my luck there.

Found a decent amount of silver the pawn shop was trying to sell. One thing that I have found out is, Pawn shops are either over priced, or under priced, and most of my luck has come from rural pawn shops out in the smaller cities, or maybe we should call this one a town, dont think it was big enough to be classified as a city.

But here is what I was able to pick up, 2016 silver Maple Leaf.

I was able to pick these up for $17.80 USD. So that put them $1.20 over spot. Now $1.20 is a little more than I would normally pay for a 1oz coin, but they where in really good shape. Very few milk spots, for those that do not know about the milk spots, it seems to be almost normal for maple leafs to have spots on them.

Picked up 22 in all, of course I picked the 22 best looking ones.

Those ugly rounds are proof that its me.

A little history about the Maples.

First mint was done in 1988 by the Royal Canadian Mint, they have been minted annually since then.

They have a micro-inscibed radial lines, which makes it very difficult ro counterfeit.

Maple leaf is the national symbol of Canada.

Since 2010, Minting of the Maple Leaf have surpassed 17 million minted each year.

Nice!! I'm going to be in rural areas of TX next week, I may have to check out some pawn shops.....Are the prices marked or do you ask? The reason I ask is if someone experienced like yourself comes in, the price may be lower than when someone inexperienced comes in (like me).

Just check the spot price before you go in, and always keep in mind anything feom a pawn shop is considered secondary market (used) thats is your can be your tool to het the price down.

Awesome info......I'll let you know how it goes.

I have a couple apps on my android phone, so I can get up to the minute spot prices

I do as well. Do you go in asking to see silver they offer at the lowest over spot price?

Lovely coins I have quite a few myself one of the finest silver coins out there great post mate and don't forget keep stacking. Cheers mike

Thanks @mikenvitt , I wilk keep stacking! Thanks for the visit and comment my friend.

No worries mate

These are my favourites.

Very nice Ray! Thanks for sharing! At first glance I thought they looked like gold haha! Yes, from my experience ML's seem to milk spot on the regular. This may be due to their 9999 pure content! Keep stackin brother!

Great find @raybrockman! With an earlier date on a coin, I always ask "how long have you been sitting on this coin?" Often if it's for more than a year, they become eager to move the "dead" inventory...especially if no one has looked at it for awhile. As mentioned, the small town pawn shops often have the best deals. Another informative post!

Thanks @lesvizable , i am goona steal you question "how long have you been sitting on this coin" excellant question to ask.

$1.20 premium, over spot, is a great deal. I don't know what the Royal Canadian Mint charges, their Authorized Dealers, but, the US Mint charges $2, premium for bullion Eagles, so we pay even more. But, $2 premium, over spot, covers minting machines, dyes, Artists, employee's salaries, shipping/handling, transporting products, etc... Thanks for the challenge, though, I'm walking, (half mile) up to local coin, to see if I can find a deal, like yours. Keep Stacking.

These look like gold maples at first glance! Maples may be my favorite coin as many investors all over the world prefer it to the eagles because they are .9999 while the ASE's are only .999.

I thought they weee gold myself at first glance, and I've always wondered about that myself.
You can buy maples cheaper than an eagle, they contain more silver, yet the the eagles cost more and sell higher than the ones with more silver.🤔

I think it's because the eagles can be purchased through some retirement accounts and that is what jacks the price up.

Maybe? I don't know but for whatever reason they hold value over the maples, but I'm thinking maybe something milkspots?
Never heard of that. Either way you cannot go wrong.

True, I also think it is a better looking coin, ASE need a new design. Thanks for the visit my friend and keep stacking.

Great post. I try to invest into silver and cryptos. Guess its the smart thing to do.

Very smart thing to do.

Absolutely! Just started a month ago. Time will show how nice life can get with the right investment

I'm using my iPhone to look at those coin and at first it look more like gold 🤣 I though you had just strike the lottery bro. Nvm next time when price of silver shoots up maybe u can trade them for gold.

I wish, but they do look a little cold in the picture. Thats the plan, as soon as the silver to gold ratio is in line, I will trade half of my silver for gold.

I will do that also when the gold silver ratio hits 1:30 I'll change 1/4 of my silver into gold 😊

The queen should be ashamed of putting her head on such cheap silver oz's. Where has this monarchy gone???

I am from the UK and have started a silver stacking blog. I have came across your posts and its nice to see others stacking silver in the steemit community. I look forward to your future posts.

Very interesting information here. Thanks for sharing ray

Great pickings Ray, i have a couple of those and a maple superleaf and some of the animal ones that are 1.5 ounces, visually they are not my favourite looking coins but hey they are silver and that's what really matters .

I have a couple of tubes of the 1.25 bison, not the best looking coin but they have a good resale to them. Thanks for the visit and keep stacking my friend.

Nice score! Wow that's a good deal...
Here in Canada (Vancouver) at the best priced bullion dealer in town the 2017 Maple is $19.27 usd.

Also, re: milk spots -- trade the milky ones against ratio for Au ;)

Good suggestion about looking at pawn shops in remote locations (the further from larger metro areas the better). With less traffic coming thru looking for PMs, you have a better chance of bargaining down the asking price. As well, if the SHTF, you're too far away to come looking for if they've recorded your address from a drivers license (or other ID) for the sale.

Your right, I have never been asked for a driver's license when purchasing from a pawn shop, thats intresting, if I do get asked, I probably would not buy. Thanks for the visit, keep stacking my friend.

Love those Maple Leafs! Couldn't help but click on those! Good post Ray.

Thanks buddy, keep stacking.

That's a great buy, wish I could grab a stack of silver like that myself.
You have to get in now if one hasn't with prices this low,and your effort will be highly rewarding when silver goes higher and higher.

The way I look at is, buy small, buy big, it doesnt matter as long as you are buying. We have been given an extension on the world wide silver sale. Problem is, no one nows when the sale ends. Keep stacking my friend.

This EXACTLY!!!

Always nice to keep adding. The pawnshops in my city are crazy overpriced but that's a good tip to try some small town ones. There's actually 2 right on the highway on the way to my dads.

I have learned that small towns, want the sale. Keep stacking my friend.

I love the radial effect that Maples now have. I usually only pick up junk silver from my local shops.

Wowzers. Eveywhere else has amazing opportunities, quarters are 20 each at the only pawn shop that that has silver here.

20 each???? Are they crazy maybe 4 of them for 20. Thank for the visit Ed. keep stacking my friend.

I love silver maples as much as I do silver eagles. The milk spots don't bother me buddy I clean them with an eraser.

It's tough to get a good deal where I'm at. Because on top of the premiums we also have to pay tax on anything under $1500. Ordering online is always cheaper but I do like to give the local shop at least a little bit of business once in a while.

That tax would suck, I dont pay tax on any of my silver. Thanks for the visit.

Nice would love get my hands on one of these. paen shops tho idk about all but one in my city is a crap way over priced and they give nothing for items like gold ,silver, coins. Nice nuy tho

That first picture makes them look gilded...crazy effect!

Pretty pretty coins.
