In 2010, following the huge success of the State Quarters Program, the US Mint began issuing fifty six $.25 coins featuring designs depicting national parks and other national sites.
The $.25 coins will be issued at a rate of five new designs each year, in the order in which the selected sites were first established as a national site.
The coins were minted in three different types: Regular strike (circulating coins), Proof strike and Silver Proof strike.
The Regular and Proof strikes are composed of 75% copper - 25% nickel and weight 6.67g. The Silver Proof strikes are 90% silver and weight 6.3g.
The first one is "Hot Springs National Park" in Arkansas (1832). The obverse of all the quarters depicts the same George Washington motif used since 1932.
The second is "Yellowstone National Park" in Wyoming (1872) and the third is "Yosemite National Park" in California (1890).
The fourth is "Grand Canyon National Park" in Arizona (1893) and the fifth is "Mt Hood National Forest" in Oregon (1893).
I hope you have enjoyed this article. In the future I will show you the other coins of this series.

Very nice. I like the big plates - the detailed relief is just mesmerizing, but the quarters are cool as well.
