This is Part 2 of our series "$1 Canadian Commemoratives".
We will show you the coins issued in 1976,1977 and 1978.
They weight 23.3g with silver purity of 50% in Specimen finish.
The 1976 $1 commemorates the 100th anniversary of the completion of the library of Parliament. This attractive building was the only part of the original center block of the Parliament Buildings that was saved during the disastrous fire of 1916. It is still in use and is a popular tourist attraction in Ottawa.
I am sorry for the awful condition of this coin. I bought it last December on Ebay but I only saw it now in April, when I arrived in Canada from Brazil. It was too late to send it back to the seller...
In 1977 Queen Elizabeth II celebrated the 25th anniversary of her coronation. Most commonwealth countries recognized this event with a coin. The design depicts the throne of the Senate of Canada. The throne is used by the Queen or Governor General for ceremonial occasions.
The 1978 silver dollar commemorated the 11th Commonwealth Games, held in Edmonton, Alberta, August 3-12 of that year. The reverse design features the symbol of the Games in the center, and the official symbols of the ten sports which comprise the Games along the perimeter.
