Continuing our series of $1 Canadian Commemoratives, we will see those issued in 2012 and 2013.
The two first coins weight 25.18g each with 99.99% silver purity. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.
The third coin is a $10 commemorative, weighting 15.87g with 99.99% purity. It was issued in Proof finish.
The first coin is a 2012 "War of 1812", issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the 1812 war. It was the first conflict between the American forces and the English of Upper Canada, the French of Lower Canada and the First Nations People, who successfully defended against an American invasion.
The reverse shows an intricate detailing depicting a British sergeant, a Voltigeur Canadien, and an Iroquois warrior in historically accurate uniform approaching the invader with unity of purpose to defend the border and colonies they represent.
The second coin is the 2013 "Canadian Arctic Expedition", issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of said expedition. In 1913, the Government commissioned an expedition to explore and map the western Canadian Arctic. The expedition was divided in two parties. The Northern Party would undertake the mapping exercise while the Southern Party would explore the geology, resources and native inhabitants of the northern mainland.
The reverse portrays several significant elements from the Canadian Arctic Expedition. In the foreground, the image draws on the abundant photography from the Expedition to present a portrait of three men standing beside a dogsled packed with gear. Harnessed to the sled, the waiting dog team watches and listens for the command to move on across the Arctic tundra. On the distant horizon, a stylized image of a compass, pointed 10 degrees east of true North, fills the background.
The third coin is a 2016 $10 "Winter Fun". The coin displays the warmth and joy of family members enjoying an activity together in a winter scene. It was issued with a Colored Proof finish and its mintage was only 2,717 coins.
