# 99 - The State Quarters - Part 11

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago  (edited)

Starting in 1999 the US Mint issued a 10 years program that honored each of the nation’s states in the order that they ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union. They chose the $.25 coin to be the vessel of the homage.

All the coins obverses show the same profile of George Washington and the reverses were usually chosen in popular contests in each state.

All the coins that I am presenting here are NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo with 90% silver purity and weight of 6.3g.

The first coin is the 2005 "Oregon". It features a portion of Crater Lake. This is the deepest lake in the United States and features incredible clarity due to the lack of incoming streams or rivers.

The second coin is the 2005 "Kansas". It features a buffalo and sunflower. The buffalo or American Bison and the sunflower were both found in abundance in the state.

The third is the 2005 "West Virginia". It features the New River and New River Gorge Bridge. The river is a part of the New River Gorge National Park.

I like the Kansas quarter because I love the Bison which I think is very iconic. Thanks for this series. I love the state quarters and have them in the five silver proof packed in the hard plastic case issued by the US Mint. Thanks for sharing!!!

It is a very beautiful series (the idea) but some coins were very badly chosen. Just look at how many state maps there are...
