2014 Silver Proof Britannia

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago

In 2014 the Royal Mint released this spectacular proof version of the Britannia. The design was just breathtaking and has since become one of the most loved and coveted Britannia designs ever.

The second i saw this coin i just had to have it, every now and then a coin just has that effect and the admiration is instant. I do have one regret, when the coin was released i put one of the 5oz variation into my shopping basket and proceeded to checkout all ready to purchase both a 1oz and the magnificent 5oz, when i came to pay i had second thoughts, i was having to use my credit card to make the purchase and the sensible Russ took over with his annoying logic on why i sould not borrow money or get into debt to buy these coins, well cheers sensible Russ you stupid gimp for not buying the 5oz version and having a coin worth thousands more now than the cost price, luckily sensible Russ shuts up now when wild eyed insane Russ is slavering over a new release.

Although the value of this coin has increased immensely i doubt i would ever part with it, i actually feel proud having it in my collection, i have a few coins that i have been lucky enough to acquire that make me feel this way, like my collection as a whole benefits from this single ounce being amongst them, the 5oz could have been in there as well but for the loathsome creep that stares back at me through the mirror.

The coin was designed by the very talented Jody Clark who has now become a super star of coin designs going on to design the new Queens portrait and the spectacular Queens Beasts, the interest i had in this coin made me for the first time take note of who designs a coin.

I was expecting after all the accolades bestowed on this design for it to go on and be at least nominated for coin of the year, i think the fact it was overlooked to be a complete mistake. In designing this coin Jody Clark did his homework, he carried out a considerable amount of research into all the preceeding Britannia designs for inspiration and back as far as AD119 during Emperor Hadrians reign when Britannia made her first appearance. Jody didnt just stumble upon the design, this image was orchestrated through his desire to make a coin that would recall Britannias history and tradition.

The coin has a maximum mintage of 5,300 and there were a very low 2,500 in this limited presentation altho annoyingly the Royal Mint revisited this design for their £50 for £50 series. Every time i see the design it reveals different dimensions and i can stare at the coin for hours, i always imagined this design being revisited by Jodey Clark and have a second coin with the lion stood to attention as tho it has been alerted to danger with Britannia taking a defensive pose and a follow up where the lion is attacking and Britannia is thrusting her trident to symbolise them defending danger. But just the way she is wearing her helmet and her hair blowing forward is sexy as hell, and her ass, oh god her ass, the most stunningly beautiful portrait of Britannia ever, could of had the image in gloriouss 5oz but for the plonker writing this post, hes a proper dick, who me? yes you!

Nice coin. I always enjoy adding a few choice collectors pieces to my stack. It adds a level of excitement to plain old bars.

Yeah, that is a sweet coin. Go Gold.

yep shes a beaut, she looks abit scrawny to be wearing that big helmet and shield but her ass showing through the dress is mesmerising :)

You're giving a whole new meaning to silver porn.

It is mesmerising, her ass is uber sexy, her helmet is sexy, the way she is holding the trident is sexy, the band round her waist is sexy, god even the lions friggin sexy :)

The most beautiful Britannia so far.

Yea i agree, just wish i had 10 of them and a 5oz :)

My second favourite . . .

One for the ages! Thanks for sharing, i had no idea there was such a coin -- and what a sex-pot!!!

Don't worry Russ, we all make silly mistakes... i once had over 90btc but spent, traded, and squandered away most of 'em. So be happy with what you got -- you rule! -- who else has that fancy pants coin?

✨✨✨✨

Wow 90btc? Oh that would be nice to have, im proper hoping steem does something and gives us all a bit of luck, the thought of my 240 steem suddenly being $10 or even $100 excites me more than the sex pot on the coin :)

I hear ya... if one gets the cryptos right, there is potential for mind boggling returns.
😁

I have not seen this coin until now.... And it is absolutely stunning... A keeper for sure!

It has been very cool watching the value of it go up, they can fetch over £400 now which is nice, the 5oz version has sold for over £5000 and i think they were £350 originally from RM (palm of hand slaps on head)

That is some intense appreciation! But not too unbelievable cuz I'm still blown away everytime I look at it. Maybe not over 500 USD blown away, but it's just such a damn fine looking coin!

Truly beautiful...I really like your idea of the two follow up coins, of them alert and then about to attack...now THAT would be an awesome collection. Well done you! Don't have regrets...you have this coin and its fantastic :)

Yea im lucky to have this coin and i didnt get into any debt buying it, but oooh had i got the 5oz lol. On a Royal Mint survey i mentioned the 3 coin idea but they prob dont get read, but yea they would have been calm, alert and attack, the same design characters but a little action sequence.

Yeah I find I do the same thing with crypto and think to myself wow that's a really good value of that price. Don't buy it and the next day it jumps 30% in price. I'm learning to go with gut Gnik as well.

Beautiful coin!

Stunning coin. Really beautiful

I need to get a better camera to take photos, i took 250 pics to get a couple that did it justice, i wanted to do a montage with different reflections. I do love this coin tho.
