I Ain't Got No Gas!

So I'd hoped the YouTube Silver Stacking and Coin Collecting communities would start using DTube and Steemit and abandon greedy old YouTube.

The opinion below was based on bad information. I've left it intact so the VERY HELPFUL comments will make sense.

But IMO it just ain't gonna work. Yes DTube is buggy and video quality is not quite as good. But the real problem I'm having is this. I normally like to "Like" the videos of people I follow and "Comment" on all the videos that I watch.

I also like to RESPOND to all the comments on my videos. This can be time consuming, but my subscribers are worth it.

You CANNOT do this on SteemIt. Every Reply and Every Comment counts as a POST! and if you "Post" more than five times per day consistently you will run out of Steem and you will not be able to post, comment, or reply (unless you buy more?).

SteemIt says this is how they ensure "quality posts" and cut down on spam. But I see it as limiting communication with my friends. See the first line of this post? The word COMMUNITY? That's we have on YouTube. SteemIt is a pretty neat platform for Blogging, Vlogging, Networking, and even making some money. But, like I said, they're not replacing YouTube... Not for me.

So it turns out commenting and replying doesn't use your Steem Power. Neither does ReSteeming. The main thing you need to limit is UpVotes...

Read the comments and be enlightened. But first Follow and UpVote

Once you get over 500 sp you get a slider and can choose how many % you wish to upvote a post/comment/re-comment with. Until then an “upvote” will be cast at 100% everytime — and will cost 2% of your SP. However, you can comment and re-comment all day long everyday, and as long as you’re not “upvoting” your SP will remain unchanged, or slowly return to 100% if it had been diminished.

Cheers! from @thedamus

Maybe it was an old article I read. So commenting and replying doesn't cost anything? There were a couple of times when it said I didn't have the bandwidth... but I'd probably attached pics to the replies, not sure.

...not if you don’t upvote.
Sometimes pics have too much info... crop ‘em down...

that's great advice. so uploading big pics is using too many resources. gotcha, thanks

👍

I now use the button Reply and that is unlimited according to me. But Thedamus already says the same....

Well, in that case I'm going to reply to EVERYONE, hehe. Except spammers :P

👍

Dtube is a little clunky. But all an all it was easy to upload. I don’t think it like hd that much. My last vid was in 480p but I think it still looked ok. Comment away it sounds like.

I suppose there are benefits to uploading to both if you have the time and patience. Good for you Vulcan.

Yeah, don't stress the replies or comments that you leave on other people's posts. They won't lower your voting power or SP. People understand, if you are new, because they have also been in your shoes, and low on voting power. (I'm really low right now)
When you're new or low on Steem Power (SP) a pretty good rule of thumb is about 10 votes per day. Then in about 24 hours, that Steem Power replenishes and you're back at about 100%. So, yeah you have to limit your upvotes to just the posts or comments that you really like. I'd probably need at least 50 votes per day to upvote everything I like lately. So much good silver and good people. Sometimes a well thought out reply, or useful information, is worth much more to the author than the few cents from an upvote.

Try going to Steem Now in the link below, and typing in your Steemit user name. It will show your voting percentage and how many hours to get back to 100% I save the site in my favorites, so I can monitor it. Also shows you who upvoted you and how much you have earned in your account.

Awesome... So commenting and replying is free. UpVoting costs... assets. And.... ReSteeming? I assume that's not free?

Yes, you can Resteem some else's post without hurting your voting power or your Steem Power (SP), to help promote them to YOUR followers. Like a retweet on twitter. So say you have 200 people following you, you could promote a friend's post that you like. And now it will be seen on all 200 of YOUR followers' "feed". Your feed is what the people that only you follow have posted today.
So if you are following @jbcoin, and I make a post about a new coin I got today, when you click on your feed, mine is in there somewhere.
You'd probably never find my post if your weren't following me, because it would be lost within the thousands of posts that everyone around the world made today.

If you Resteem my coin post, now all of your followers see my coin post too. We probably have a few followers in common, but for the most part you are helping me reach all new people.

Man... very nice of you to write the explanation for such a limited audience, haha. I appreciate you helping me out :D

No problem at all, thats what we do. I felt just like you at the beginning. Fuck this shit, waste of time, can't get off the ground. You meet people that help you. You join groups to support little guys. And before long you're helping others yourself. Everyone helping each other just a little, but it adds up. Either new users with upvotes, or spending tiny amount to give your buddy's post a nice bot upvote payout, or just helping to promote their good content. I've got youtube videos with just a few watches over years...same concept.

Nice thing about the blockchain, another new guy a year from now can still read it and be helped. It's here to stay.

This was by far the most instructive replies I have ever read here at Steemit. Thanks to all and mainly to you SBSparts for creating this topic.

Very nice

^^ That, is a spam post for any noobs reading these comments (or it sure the heck looks like one). Generic compliment with no reference to the content of the post. Some of these guys will claim to have upvoted you and ask you to follow them.
