I don’t know how many of you in the steemsilvergold community collect or stack this series, but the designs of these coins are tremendous. The coin is the Somalia elephant series which is produced by the Bavarian State Mint, located in Munich, Germany. The obverse designs change yearly and each is a work of art.
Here is a little background on the series. This series began in 2004 with a mintage of only 5,000 coins. That mintage number was held through 2008, but in 2009 went to 130,00 coins which was a huge jump from 5,000. In 2010 for some reason there were some coins struck with 2010 on the reverse but with the same obverse as the 2009. These coins are difficult to find and there is no known mintage on them. They also released a colorized version of each coin which are the coins i am displaying on this post. From 2004-2008 there were only 500 coins colorized. That number increased to 1,000 coins in 2009-2015. Since 2015 there have not been an mintage numbers posted for these.
This is the 2004 colorized Somalia elephant coin, which happens to be my favorite colorized one.
This is the 2012 colorized Somalia elephant coin.
This is the 2015 colorized Somalia elephant coin.
This is a 2015 gold gilded version of the Somalia elephant coin.

The enamelling on these is beautifully done, not usually a fan of coloured coins but these are works of art.

I have some of these coins but not one colorized. I don't think it is worth the premium that you pay for the colorized ones. Is the 2015 colorized blurred or is it a problem with the photo ?

I have the entire set of plain silver ones. The only reason i have the four of these is because i got a deal i couldn’t refuse. It’s my crappy picture taking. Sorry

Gorgeous! I love love love the Somali elephant coins! I'm not big for couloured coins but the gilded one!!! That's awesome for sure. Actually even the coloured ones look cool, I think I'm just jaded, cause the RCM can't seem to do anything but coloured coins lately. So many painted quarters come out, and I keep collecting them all... But that's a post rant for another day... Lol.
Anyway, the Somali elephant has been, the most beautiful bullion coins for a while now in my mind! Nice ones dude!
