Afternoon everyone....
To keep up with my started tradition, today is #worldcoinwednesday.
But today I will not only give you a coin from somewhere other than the UK. I’m going to give you three coins from another country.
And today’s country is Australia.....
The three coins I am going to share with you are the same style coin but of three different years. The coin is an Australian Florin. They were produced from 1910-1945 were minted from .925 silver, better known as sterling silver. From 1946-1966 they were minted from .50 silver.
The Florin is 28.6mm, which is slightly larger then a US quarter. The weight is 11.31 grams. The obverse of the coins I will show has King George VI, and the reverse has the Australia coat of arms.
I will be showing you a fine example of 1942, 1943, and 1944 today.

I love these coins, particularly the crest design that shows the Emu and the Kangaroo! Great choice of coins to collect. I will post later (otherwise SSG will miss me) in the afternoon, using the #worldcoinwednesday tag, also because I just put up a post for Wednesday Walk earlier.

They were used for daily transactions like our quarter, dime, nickel and penny. To my knowledge they were silver up till 1966 then went to clad. Then Australia went to the decimal system and stopped producing them altogether.
