Well it finally came in! As I am finding out text books seem to take longer to ship then silver ingots. Today, I recieved a historical text book titled, "Anatomy Of An Ingot." It was written by Paul Franklin. A photo of the textbook is featured below.
To my surprise, when I opened the book I saw that it was signed by the author. There was a business card sitting on the same page. Interestingly enough the card also had the name Paul Franklin on it. I assume that I purchased the book directly from the author. I am going to attempt to reach out to him. It would be amazing to get a conversation started with someone that has this kind of knowledge. Here is a photo of the signature. .
In this article I will share photos of specific pages out of the text book. Each photo will demonstrate the variety and depth of the information found in the text book. Before I share the photos I want to give a very brief overview of the textbook.
At a quick glance this text book provides information about many of the historical events that took place during the gold/silver rush in the mid 1800s. All the way up to the mid 1900s. A lot of the focus is out west where majority of the mining, refining, and assaying took place. There are many photos of some of the earliest mines that were successfully operating out west. The text book also focuses on the equipment used to mine and refine . Demonstrating the early production tools. Then showing how technology has developed over the years. Of course, as technology develops so does the Anatomy Of An Ingot!!
I attempted to take clear photos. Hopefully whoever is reading this article would be able to read the text associated with the photos. Please take your time and read. Some great history here!
👆A very old photo demonstrating the physical size of the silver bar's produced during the early mining days. Its important to notice the size of the scales in the background.
👆A couple photos silver ingots produced in the late 1800's. Check out the detail!! These exceedingly rare silver ingots are valued around $50,000 USD a piece.
👆This page highlights some of the famous shipwreck gold! Recovered from the S.S Central America.
👆 Here is an ingot that came out of the John J Ford Jr collection. I have referenced several ingots on Steemit that have surfaced in this collection. This is a unique piece that raised a lot of interest when it was sent into the Stacks and Bowers auction.
👆 Assaying during Egyptian time! Here is some history that doesn't get much notoriety. It all started somewhere and somehow...
👆Jumping ahead many pages it shows how the equipment used by assayers is advancing.
This textbook is far from soley discussing silver ingots. It includes extensive information on mining, refining, and assaying. I honestly wasn't expecting those topics to be the majority of the content. It must have taken the author decades to gather this amount of information. Once it is all gathered then he pieced together the story. That demonstrates amazing passion and dedication...
"Anatomy Of An Ingot" book can be purchased on EBay for $39.99 USD. I know several members of the #steemsilvergold community who are into pouring their own silver would find this read very interesting.

As nice read with some cool vintage ingots, having the Author's autograph makes this book a great collecting score.
