I have mentioned a few times here on Steemit that I collect SMITHS silver ingots. As far as history goes. They had a location in Nemo, Texas. I assume production took place the late 1970s. I have been unable to confirm that.
SMITHS ingots are known for their unique 9999 stamp. It's not often that you see four 9s! All the silver ingots they produced share a similar landscape. They are all stamped with an odd weight. They are also stamped with the word silver on atleast one side. All are stamped with SMITHS.
Below is a comparison photo of some of the smaller SMITHS ingots I own. Note the similarities.
It is believed that the ingots stamped with SMITHS on the top are less common. Notice the NEMO counter stamp on one of the ingots. That is where the relation to Nemo, Texas lies.
Through out my "hunt" for SMITHS Ingots. I have seen a variety of weight classes. Typically in odd weight classes 1oz-5oz. Then a jump to 15oz-50oz. I could not find a 10oz class ingot for the life of me!! There has been no recorded public sales for one either!! Don't get me wrong these ingots are very rare to begin with. On the rare occasion they are seen. They are hardly ever in the 10oz class.
One week ago I recieved a photo from a friend on Instagram. He was at a coin show and took a photo of a display case full of old poured silver ingots. As I zoomed in on each piece to scope it out. I discovered TWO 10OZ SMITHS INGOTS. I was shocked! My friend immediatly tried purchasing them as part of a package deal. The dealer told him the SMITHS ingots had recieved the most attention at his table and would like to hold them. Heart shattering news.
Two days later I got a follow up message. My friend said the dealer wanted to meet up and possibly negotiate a deal. They both met up and were able to settle on a deal!!
I was able to secure both 10oz class SMITHS silver ingots. After paying for express shipping I got them 24hrs after purchase. Yes, I have issues and can't bare to wait for standard shipping.
Pictured below is the 10.12oz SMITHS silver ingot that I kept for my collection. I forwarded the second ingot to my collector buddy. He had also been hunting this size SMITHS. That is just the way we do things. No need to get greedy. Help out a friend! It always comes back around when dealing with the long time members of the precious metals community..👊
👆Notice the pattern on the face of the ingot. Almost looks like fish scales. That is a unique charactoristic seen on top quality examples.
👆The word SILVER is stamped on both sides of the ingot. Top right corner demonstrates the start of natural toning.
👆Reverse side shown.
It is an amazing feeling when your able to cross an ingot like this off the NEED LIST. This type of event can take YEARS! The high level of personal satisfaction is what keeps me comming back for more.
It is important to note that SMITHS silver ingots have X4 their value with in the last year. No matter where the spot price of silver is. Vintage silver market premiums are appreciating at an alarming rate.

How cool is that. Such unique pieces you are always showing. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for any old poured stuff up at the LCS. Silver is sooo cheap right now and I'm sooo broke until Friday. LOL
