In this post i'm going to share with you how i got into the world of silver stacking. My intentions are to hopefully inspire you and find something in my story that you can relate with, bringing you back to your early days of first getting into the collecting/investing world.
It all started when i was around 5 years old, my grandpa and his friend would go metal detecting on weekends around old parks, beaches and music festivals. He would show me his findings and i always thought it was the coolest thing ever! I remember in particular he had a shoe box under his bed of old constitutional silver and as a 5 year old it held the weight of pirate treasure in my eyes. I would dip my hand in the mason jars and let the coins flow through my fingers and always loved the sound silver made when they clunk together. I always loved collecting things as a kid, i collected sports cards and all types of weird things i found interest in (still do till this day) but nothing will beat the moment my grandpa gave me some old coins out of his own personal collection. From that moment on i was a full blown coin collector, looking at my coins for hours at a time and always being so fascinated with the beauty of each individual coin. As i got older and my coin collection started growing, i realized there was some actual value in some of my coins, not from the numismatic value but from the metal content. That's when i first understood the value of silver. It wasn't about how much the coins were worth, but simply more intrigued by the artwork and history behind the coins since every coin told a different story and it was like capturing a moment in history! I remember imagining how weird it was to be holding a pre-1900 Barber half dollar in my hand and wondering what all the crazy situations and places that specific coin has been in. Our family was happy but over the years everything financially started going downhill..Our construction company went out of business, my grandma lost her job and my mother was a single parent raising 5 kids.. I'm the oldest so i took the role of the father figure. This was the point in my life i realized the importance of investing and saving money for security and also building a future for myself since i'm witnessing everyone around me living miserable from their financial instability. I always knew silver was valuable but never really "invested" into it as a form of financial security until around this time. I started watching hours and hours of youtube videos trying to understand the best strategies and coins since this was a more serious level of investing compared to my childhood collection. My first 20 ounces were all poured silver from Atlantis Mint, i loved the skull and crossbones bar and also the 5 ounce Tombstone bar reminding me of that "pirate treasure" feeling i got as a kid. Then i started to understand the benefits of higher premium silver and went full force into Pandas & kookaburras. At this time i wanted to share my collection but knew it was too risky to tell anyone in person so i decided to start a channel called "Silver Slayer" on December 21st, 2016. Ever since then i have been sharing my silver stacking journey posting daily videos with my quickly growing channel and can honestly say that stacking silver has forever changed my life in the most positive and amazing way possible. It taught me to see the world in a "stackers" perspective. When i'm driving by starbucks, instead of throwing my money away for coffee i could make for free at home i now ask myself "Would i rather have this cup of coffee that will last 30 minutes, or go buy a Walking Liberty half dollar that i can keep forever"? This mindstate has allowed me to become financially stable to a degree i've never been in my entire life and i owe it all completely to the Silver Stacking community. Now i'm simply giving back by also making content and inspiring others to begin this journey i started years ago. Thanks for reading this post and i hope you enjoyed it!
