Yesterday, I helped to convince my friend's elderly mother NOT to sell her silver.
Her husband passed late last year and now she's picking up the pieces of her life and moving on. Her kids are there to help her and she's moving out of the house she's lived in for over 50 years. You tend to accumulate a lot of stuff over that period of time, and it's up to her and her kids to go through it.
One of the things they found was a small hoard of 90% silver coins. Knowing that I'm a stacker, my friend asked me to help her value them. (I had a real Pawn Star's moment as I was the expert being asked to come in and tell her what they're worth!!!!)
The value came out to be between 10K-12K. She said she was thinking of selling to some online dealers.
I quietly reassured her that, unless she was in desperate need of money, she should just keep them. I informed her silver price fluctuates and currently it's near the bottom. I also explained that the price was at $50.00 just 6 short years ago. She said she thought that was a good idea and she'd keep them around for a while.
I hate to see older people taken advantage of by unscrupulous online dealers. I'm glad I was able to help her out!
