Silver of the Day #9

in steemsilvergold •  6 years ago

Today I want to show you the first silver bar I have ever gotten. It is a one ounce silver stagecoach bar. On the front is this beautiful design of a stagecoach being pulled by a team of horses.

On the back, it's divided into four equal pieces so if you need to break it apart and use a smaller increment, you can do so. I plan on keeping it as a whole bar. Not only will it be worth a little more that way, it also preserves the design on the front.

I got it at the regular generic price which isn't too bad considering it's in good condition and has a unique design. I'm glad to add it to the stack.

Thanks for checking it out!

Sweet bar, i like that it can be broken down into fraction bars. They bring a good premium.

Thanks, I really like it. Again, no plans to break it apart, but I like that I could if I wanted to.

howdy there @themanwithnoname! hey where did you get this silver bar, I haven't seen the breakaway type before?

also I was reading a guy's blog and each week he has been buying $1,000 worth of silver half dollars and going through them trying to find the 40% or 90% silver ones. so that's 2,000 coins each week!

last week he said they were going to suspend that for the summer because they had gone 5 or 6 weeks without finding a single silver one so I think someone else is going through these and getting the silver ones.
used to hear people talk about going and getting them and there would be at least one in each roll but not anymore.

But having said that, I know that there are so many collectible coins of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and halfs because of missing dates or markings or whatever but the person from yesterday has all that information..pocketchange or something like that was the username.

If you got the time you can make it worthwhile, never know some of those unusual ones are worth hundreds, even thousands. just what I've heard, I know nothing about coins.
thank you sir for the fine post!

I think I've seen someone here post about it before, but I found it at my local coin store (LCS) or as @glenalbrethsen calls it, the NSLCS (Not so local coin store). They just had it in their generic round tray, so I didn't have to pay a big premium on it which was nice.

You don't really have to buy the half dollars. As you can read about in my post from yesterday I just went through $200 worth of them. I think it only took me around 30-60 minutes to complete. It goes quite quickly. I was thinking about upping the amount that I got at one time, but the bag can get quite heavy, and I don't feel super comfortable running around with that much money on me. Especially not when it would make it so difficult to get away if someone was chasing me. My wife is a good wheelman (wheelwoman), but even if she's got the car running, I still have to get there. It's hard to do with a million pounds of (hopefully some) silver weighing you down.

I didn't have any luck with my search, and it seemed from the peace signs on multiple coins in multiple rolls that someone was going through them where I was at as well. Oh well.

Yes, their username is "pocketechange." I didn't tag them as I don't call people to my comments very often. They might not be interested in what I'm saying. I don't like to disturb people. Personal preference. ;)

I don't know much about the unique ones either. Someone could be finding coins worth millions in the rolls after I search them and I would have no clue. I just look for what I know. Maybe our friend will do a post on how to spot coins that have common mistakes and are thus of value.

oh ok Blondie I was wondering what in the world NSLCS stood for but I still don't understand that, why is the local coin store not so local?
I feel dense. I should be the Blondie.

Plus, what do you mean you don't really have to buy them?
the bank is going to loan them to you? I feel dense again.

Maybe I'm getting Steemit Brain Fog. I know that @glenalbrethsen gets that condition but he's got so many brain cells that 90% of them can freeze up on him and he still has enough with 10% left to just keep on trucking, writing, philosophizing, machine writing and all that other super human stuff he does.. but I ain't got that.

So for some of this stuff I need a redneck definition/description/explanation.

well I gotta take Jack out, our German Shepard, he's giving me
a stare because he knows it's time to go outside. plus I feel dense here.

NSLCS is Glen's way of saying that it's not really very close, but it's the closest thing around if he wants to walk into a place with dolla billz and walk out with silver bars/coins/rounds/silverware.

No worries. It's an inside joke between Glen and me. You're really the first one to get in on the joke... unless other people have read it and just not commented on it.

You don't have to buy them as in you don't need to pay $200 plus a markup for $200 face value of coins. Since they're in circulation, you just withdraw that amount. You haven't paid a premium or fee, it's just taking some of your money out. You can deposit the same amount back in when you're done and you won't have lost any value. Therefore, you're not really buying it. Maybe a semantic difference.

Glen's a smart guy and he's got a lot more figured out on here and in life than most people. We'd all do well to emulate a lot of things that he does. :)

Hey, enjoy that walk with the dog. Have a great evening! Hopefully my explanations help a little more. Sorry for the confusion.

howdy Blondie! No that's okay, I'm used to being confused on here, lol! I see what you mean by not really buying the coins now. the other guy would get his coins from the bank in two large boxes, 2,000 half dollars looked heavy though, wouldn't want to try and run with them very far.

He gets them from one bank and then takes them back to another and he says they always look at him like he's nuts, especially going back with 2,000 lose half dollars!
thank you sir for all the great conversation!

The half dollars are almost the size of a 1 ounce silver coin and when you get 2,000 silver coins (like the silver american eagle) they normally come in a Monster Box. I wonder if that's what they're giving them to him.

Probably smart to take them back to another bank. Then they get mixed up a bit more so he has a chance to get other coins. Otherwise he could just be searching the same ones over and over. I wonder if he has a system for marking the rolls so he knows if he's already searched them. That way he can save time and move on to the next ones.

Happy to chat with you. Hope that you had a nice walk with the dog. :)

howdy again @themanwithnoname..yes he shows the 2 boxes, each hold a thousand coins, they unwrap them and dump them on the table and they start looking at dates and throwing them into a big basket.

But someone commented on his post saying that basically he was crazy for only looking for silver ones, that there could be many collectible coins out of that many with just missing markings or something... so he was potentially missing out on finding valuable coins.

I think it would be fun to do, I'd consider it if I had the time and it makes for interesting posts because you're kinda like taking people on a silver hunt or collectibles hunt.

yes sir, Jack had a good time. I take him out between midnight and 1 am
and with the amount of coyotes and all the dogs and pets that have been killed around here in the country, and with hearing the coyotes all around our property every night it's basically me guarding him with a spotlight and gun while he uses the bathroom and checks things out away from the house but I never take my eyes off of him after hearing the stories that local ranchers have told me about coyote attacks.
one of the worst things is that you can't hear them coming, they're silent until they make the kill. they ain't getting Jack that's for sure, they'd have to come through me first and I don't think they'd fair to well! God bless you sir, hope to talk later.

they unwrap them and dump them on the table and they start looking at dates and throwing them into a big basket.

I'm a little more methodical in my approach. I have just been opening one tube at a time and searching through. I try to save the tube/roll if I can so I don't have to use a new one. It's easier that way. However they want to do it is fine though. It must be fun to put them all in a big pile.

There may be other valuable coins in the stack, but I don't know what to look for. If someone wanted to teach me what to look for I'd be happy to look for more opportunities to get paid.

It's exactly like a silver treasure hunt. You know where to look, but no clue if there's treasure buried. I'm sure there's an easy way to determine if there's silver inside, but I don't know it, so I dig through. Maybe I should start marking the rolls or something.

Coyotes can be scary. Although I think they normally hunt alone, I've heard of packs of them hunting together. One will go out and goad the dog into chasing it and the other coyotes will hide in the bushes. When the dog comes after the first one, they'll all jump the dog and kill it.

Normally they don't go after humans, but I think they're getting more used to human presence, so they're not as afraid as they should be. Well, at least not as afraid as they should be around me.... or you apparently. ;) Ha ha.

Wow! Good thing you got that when you did! @Papa-pepper had an order in from Northwest Territorial Mint for about $5850 USD worth of those when the company stole the money and went bankrupt. Still trying to get something back from it.

Oh, my gosh, that SUCKS! I'm so sorry. That's terrible that after saving up for so long that your money just vaporized because they ran off with it. And you still haven't gotten anything back from it? Man, I'm really sorry. :(

Don't let that sully you on silver though. Although I'm not a professional and this isn't investment advice, I still think silver is a great way to preserve your wealth. Although, like you said in your post, maybe buy in-person.

Yeah, I still got the Silver bug, and still like these bars too, just wish I would have actually gotten more of them like I tried to!

That's really tough, man.

Do you have "the silver bug" like you want to get more silver, or do you actually have silverbug rounds.bars. I just saw this one the other day and I wouldn't mind having a few. They are around $25 each though.

Those are pretty cool bars. Usually I see them in 1/10th ounce increments, quarter ounce is even cooler.

I haven't seen the 1/10th ounce increment bars yet, so that will be something to look forward to. I really like it. I was glad I could get it, and at such a low price.
