Pre-Coinage Act (1792) US Dollar INSIDE???

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago

OK, this one seems that it says 1792 which would be a pre-coinage act coin and very rare. I got these pics from a guy I met at a coin show, who wishes to remain anonymous for the time being. Here's what I got:

pre-1794 Silver Dollar.png

and:

pre-1794 Silver Dollar Reverse.png

The markings say Liberty, America, Dollar, and Alexander on the coin. He says the date appears to be 1792, and this coin has no stars on the obverse like the 1794 Dollar. I have no weight data other than "heavy as fvck" 🤣
I am asking the owner for better pix, for size and maybe a better view of the markings. This might be an valuable piece of American History... Lady Liberty has a BOW in her hair.

Anyone with any info on this please respond, I am trying to help my friend figure this out! Quite the conundrum ;)

It looks to be a 1794 Liberty Cap Large Cent. Here is a link to one.

My friend said it might not say "Alexander" and those words are a bit faint, maybe it does not say Dollar either? Hard to say, the pix I got are a bit less detail than I like to see, but coins are hard to shoot w/o a light box IMO. You may have it VGH! Great work, I will fwd that link to the owner and see if we can make more of a match. He said the coins is about 1" in diameter which matches the "large cent" description...

Happy I could help. That's a very cool coin by the way.

hi sweetie, you so sweeeet

Whoa that is Off Da Hook BADASS!! Love it, and all the info too, love ancient coins. I was looking at some from Greece the other day. I met a guy last year in Breckenridge that makes Israeli jewelry out of ancient coins. I might buy a piece this year. So gorgeous. Thanks for the share.

Yep, looks like a large cent to me. I would guess a 1798 or 1799, hard to say, that last digit is weak.

def looks like a 2 or 4 to me, but def isn't an 8
Wonder what it's selling for, I love history!

Yes, I was at work and not paying attention. It can't be an 8 or a 9, because that would be a draped bust large cent (different Liberty lady on the front). Also it can't be a 1792 because that is a flowing hair liberty birch cent (my metal detecting bucket lister). This coin dates between 1793 and 1796.

Very cool man but I have no idea what it is lol

Wow that looks really rare. I don't know a lot about coins. I think I will just follow along with the comments in case I learn something.

Wow! How cool! Also, great on these people who were actually able to find info with such hard to read pictures.
