Egyptian Gods Series Coin #2- Anubis Ultra High Relief 2oz

in steemsilvergold •  6 years ago

Continuing with my love for ancient Egypt is the second coin in the Elemental Mint Egyptian God Series. This coin features Anubis, the god of mummification and the afterlife. This coin is just as badass as the first coin in the series, Cleopatra.

These Ultra High Relief coins are so detailed it's hard to capture the depth of the strike. Let's take a look at it.

Obverse

Often depicted as a half-man, half-dog creature, Anubis appears on the obverse of the 2 oz Elemetal Egyptian God Series Anubis Silver Round. He is depicted holding the scales of justice during the embalming ceremony of ancient Egyptians when the heart is weighed. In this ceremony, a newly deceased individual’s heart is weighed against a feather. If the feather is heavier, the individual moves on to the afterlife. Source

Reverse

The reverse side of the Anubis Silver Round features the image of a jackal at rest atop a winged sun disc in front of a temple pyramid reflective of those built in and around the complex of pyramids built in Giza. The golden jackal was associated with Anubis and classified by early archaeologists as such, but was later reclassified through genetic testing as the African golden wolf. Source

Here is a little more info on Anubis from JM Bullion. Anubis was known to Egyptian society throughout its many dynasties over the course of thousands of years, but it was the Greek name of Anubis that stuck in the long run. The earliest Egyptians knew Anubis as the protector of graves and an embalmer, but the Middle Kingdom Egyptians looked to Orisis as the Lord of the underworld.

This series is my favorite out at the moment. The 3rd coin in the series is going to be coming up in a later post. I'll try to show the great detail and depth of the strike with a few loop pics.

I hope you have enjoyed looking at this awesome coin. It's such a sweet piece and feels great in the hand. If you were thinking about getting into this series, I highly suggest it. These coins had a nice low mintage of 16,142. Get them while you still can.

very cool! I really dig your closeup pics.

Thanks @cyber.explorer. It's a pain in the ass with the loop. I need to get one of the macro lenses for my phone.

This series is really beautiful, with a very clean design. I like it very much.

Me too! These Ultra High relief coins are awesome. Can't wait for the 4th coin to come out.

Sweet! Those are beautiful. I scored the Cleopatra from the RCS sale, and hope to get this one day. I am hoping for a Tutankhamen coin one day too...

I can't wait to see what the 4th coin in the series is. The repulblic of Chad has some cool Egyptian coins too. Hoping to collect them all, ancient Egypt is my favorite.

Dang. That is a very cool coin! The detail is so great.

It's even crazier in real life. It's like Anubis is popping out of the coin. This is a great series. Thanks for checking it out @dfinney.

Well, Anubis is a god.... maybe he actually IS popping out of the coin!!! 😳

😄

😬😂😂

Super pretty round. Great detail, a beautiful finish, fine high relief round! Will you be putting that one in a capsule?

Yup. I have a capsule for it but like to picture them without. It's hard enough trying to get a pic of the detail without it being covered in plastic. I really like the high relief coins.

You made this shots with your smartphone as well?! You've made that coins come to live with all those close-ups! Love it!

Yes, this was with my smartphone. The picture of the bar in my other post wasn't very impressive. I do pretty decent for only having a smartphone. Thanks for checking them out @soyrosa.

Nice pictures for sure of high contrast coins.
