Today was the day that the Royal mint released the 2018, Peter Rabbit, sterling silver, 50 pence coin. The Royal Mint created the series of 50p coins to celebrate the birth of Beatrix Potter, with the first release in 2016, which was the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potters birth. The series has been very successful and it’s perhaps no surprise that Peter Rabbit was one of the most popular coins in the series.
Now there is no denying that the coin itself is a fantastic work of art and its obvious why idiots like myself go crazy for them. This is the 3rd set to be released, since its initial release it 2016. The Peter Rabbit design for 2018 is of Peter Rabbit munching on radishes taken from Mr. McGregor’s garden
(2016 and most collectable and expensive)
(2017 and my least favourite)
(2018 and I really like this one)
I am very fortunate that I live within spitting distance of the Royal Mint and as soon as I heard they released the coin this morning, I could not wait to get out of work this afternoon.
Now I could have ordered online and had it delivered for free, but my logic was that they would have the lower serial numbers at the mint itself and I was right.
300/35000 that's not a bad result and I'm very happy with that low number.
The Peter Rabbit series has been depicted with a different scene each year, followed by characters from the tales on their own coins. There are 4 coins released each year and its only Peter Rabbit that gets repeated. The illustrations are brought to life with colour printing on a sterling silver coin, which is finished to the finest Proof standard. Each coin comes in a clear acrylic presentation case for safekeeping and is accompanied by information on the character and quotes from Beatrix’s original tales.
Yes, those are some cool coins. They would make great gifts.

Hmmm they are nice but I could never justify the money for these coins but if you have started the set you have no option but to complete them.

They have me over a barrel. I only get the Peter rabbit each year so only £60 out of pocket....

Couldn’t agree with you more. They killed this series by doubling the mintage last year. Then they jack up the price and added another 5,000 to the mintage again.

A nice little set there WS.
I'm still firmly in 'bullion mode' tho. Maybe I'm not glaring into the silver for long enough to get hooked on their hypnotic trance ;)

No 300, very cool. I had to order one, i like it, i shouldn't as im a 19 stone mechanic into heavy metal but its a coloured bunny on a silver 50p and just look how much hes enjoying those radishes! Im not collecting the entire series but i have the 3 Peters and a Jemima.
I said i would only sell the 2016 for a half ounce of gold but once it got there i thought hmmm ok a full ounce, it got close last November but with these new releases and the film it could get tempted away and i hate James Corden and his smug fat face, if i look at the coin and hear his even smugger voice they are sold. So cool you live near RM to just pop in and snap one up, ill just wait for the postman to bring my slightly bashed about number 17458.

Numistacker told a lot about Peter on YouTube. I think it is a pure UK thing or not ?

They are available worldwide through the Royal Mint website.
But I think the British people have really taken these to heart. They always sell well but are very over priced
