Can you spend a silver coin part3

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago

As part of my ongoing experiment to see if you can spend a silver £2 coin in everyday places... I "BET" you can't guess where I went to spend it today?

OK that was a bad pun but yes, you guessed it I went to my local bookmakers to try and place some bets using my coin.

First up "the Irish lottery". Pick 3 numbers, match the 3 numbers from a draw of 6 and win £300 for a £0.50 bet. So I took 2 of them. =£1

Next up a little 4 fold footy acca (or a 4 fold football accumulator haha) on the EFL cup. So for you odd folk across the pond, by football I mean soccer. With another £1 bet a possible return of £57.75, but I'm not holding my breath as I went for a few underdogs just to make the bet worthwhile.

Now I'm not a gambling man, I usually like to put my money on sure things such as gold and silver but for the purpose of this experiment I thought why not give it a go.

So if you're a gambling person, which way would you go?? Did they take the silver coin YES or NO??

Well I'll put you out your mystery... The experiment continues, I still have her. The 2 young cashiers working behind the desk were incredible helpful and one of them even knew it was a silver Britannia. Neither of them were sure they could take it and with no managers on site they decided not to accept it, although the one chap did offer me £2 for it... Good try kid!

Like I said I'm not a gambling man and although it's not illegal I always feel wrong after placing a bet so to balance karma out I went a few doors down to my local charity shop - cancer research Wales and left a little donation in the charity box. Plus if I do win I will donate the winnings to them too.

So where next?? Someone suggested a fast food chain, so maybe there.

ah man that kid should have taken it and swapped it for £2 out his pocket to put in the till! :)

That's exactly what I would do!

i won you a share in that @steembasicincome thing so you should start getting some small votes from them next week :)

I bloody love you 💘

Hahaha how about a pub hahaha Im sure they would have a different reaction to it hahahaha, but you should give that a try

You tell me 1 place where I can get a pint these days for £2... Hahaha I'll have a go next time I'm out over Christmas

keep going man, i bet you sooner or later you may just find someone in the steemsilvergold community that works in one of the places you visit, then that person will have a great rest of the day, off course after you leave they will put their fiat in the register and take the coin. At least you lose a coin and make someone really happy

If anyone in the steemsilvergold community lives by me please hold your hands up 🙋That's my trouble I'm miles away from anyone that wants to grab a pint and talk precious metals/cryptos.

I've already made a deal with @russellbury that if I can't spend it in a few months, I'll give it to a charity shop.

Loving this series Welsh!! You might have some luck in the new year. You have any chippy vans local?

The local chippy is on my list. But like you said will be around/in the new year before we have 1

In McDonald's try to go

That's on my list of places. Even though I'm a "fatty" Im not a fan of fast food and I'm not going out of my way just to go to one. Next time I'm passing I'll go in and buy 2 ice cream Sundays, caramel ones of course.

Lol..."so for you odd folk across the pond.." haha, thats me!

Interesting project, you'd think that eventually you'll get that cashier that will snatch that up in a heart beat!

Eventually I will, this little experiment has actually backfired. The point was to prove you could spend silver as real money.... Not looking good so far.

Still got it eh, someone will take it eventaully. I'm impressed that they could ID it even.

The young boy(I say young but early/mid 20's) knew what it was and I'm sure he was thinking "maybe I could accept it and swap it out after" but because there was 2 of them he didn't take it.

my sister used to work at a bookies and she accepted the £5 coins, i got a couple of them, she would just swap £5 for £5 and give them me for birthday/crimbo prezzy.

You should try a charity shop next, if they accept it at least you know it would most likely help that charity, it would be in their interest to accept it. You could get a pair of 1970's brown slip on shoes, an ornament of a frog sat on a lilly wearing a bowler hat, 475 Cathrine Cookson novels and an unused designer man bag.

That is an extensive list of items..... Sounds like someone shops at their charity shop on a regular basis?? Lol

I'll make you a promise - if I can't find a shop/store that takes it between now and say march 31st (end of the tax year) I'll go and spend it/donate it in the charity shop
