So how did I become the Welsh silver stacker #11

Good evening/morning, depending on where and when you see this. OK, so @britcoin asked us a question "tell us what is your favourite coin". This one is easy and I'll tell you all why. Without hesitation or a second thought the coin that jumps out is my 1900, queen Victoria, Florin . It's. 925 fine Silver with a veiled aka widowed head.

This coin was given to me by my late grandmother, she always called it her "lucky coin" and I'm really grateful that she did. I have very fond memories of when I was a little pup(during the 80's). Because Mum & Dad worked I spent a lot of time with her and she was a great women. Thinking about those times when you could get a bag of chips(fries for you yanks/Canadians), a bottle of panda pop and a few sweets for a quid just proves how the pound has devalued over the years. Anyway I digress.

Not long after she passed I got the coin out of the bottom of my draw and thought "how cool it would be to get a few more and that maybe metal detecting would be a good idea". So that's exactly what I did. I bought myself a Garrett Ace 250 and off I went. After spending my first few days looking for permissions, I managed to get a few hundred acres of farm land not too far from home. I dug up everything and I mean EVERYTHING that set the detector off. So you can imagine by the end of the first day I had enough pull tabs and tin foil to sink a battleship. The first coin I dug up was a battered "old-style", 1974, 10p.

After working out the settings on the garrett, I managed to figure out the discriminate buttons and then the real fun began. It was several weeks later when I finally dug up my first bit of actual silver. A 1915, George V, .925 fine Silver, half crown.

You can see from the spade ding mark on the front top (shield) that back then I wasn't too careful. So after this coin a few more, then a few more silvers started turning up. Eventually I thought to myself why not just buy silver coins new, at the time I think spot was around the £10 mark and it was a bit warmer and dryer just to order them online.

So that's how 1 coin changed the way I look at the world. From believing everything was great with the economy and that the government had my best interest at heart. To finally jumping down the rabbit hole and trying to work out what's really going on with it. It's funny now thinking that this "lucky coin" has shaped my life in such a way. Looks like it's lucky for me also.
