Streamlined start to 2019 + giz a job already

So the job hunt is going..... just going. An update on that and some simple tips on how to lose weight...

Can't see the connection? It's pretty easy - no money, no beer. No beer, chocolate, pizza, coco puffs, or any other shite you might like but don't really need. Easy!

A few weeks ago I weighed myself for the first time in a year or two, I don't own a set of scales (cause I'm a bloke) and I think the last time I stood on a set prior to last week, was in Valencia, and it cost me 20 cents. This time though it was free, I'd taken a shower round at my mum's partners place as the water was off here, and after a shower but before clothing I thought, why not.

I was pretty surprised with the reading. 11 stone 6, which is just a smidge over 73 kg. To give a bit of context, I'm about 6 foot 1 - 186 cms, and I'm pretty sure that the last time I was this weight was prior to University - prior to a first term of beer, pizza, kebabs, and little exercise. My mum says I look thin, but I'm looking in the mirror in the morning each day thinking hey, this is alright!

I actually feel pretty good, less lethargic, and in a reasonable state of mind. And I've started doing a bit of exercise each day too. Don't worry though (mum), I'm not aiming to go lower and hopefully the exercise will make me hungry more often - plenty of pasta is on the cards for the coming weeks. Unless.....

One of these fuckers who keeps calling me actually follows through with what they say and get me an interview. I've had 3/4 calls and as many emails in the past 4/5 weeks, asking about my availability and if I am still looking for work. I'm pretty sure my answer each time has been a solid 'yes', but so far, following this initial call, (and promise on a few occasions) nothing else has materialized. Personally I think they just want you on a list to prove to their bosses that they have new contacts. That shouldn't mean shit though unless they are placed, right?

My first choice still is Valencia, and although it's not close to home, or my daughter in other words, sorta, it's easily the sunniest city that has been put forward so far. The UN though are pretty slow and steady, and although I'm 'on the list', I was told be the recruiter not to hold back if something else comes along.

Would you believe that I've been contacted about two jobs in Poland? The location of Steemfest 3, was not somewhere I thought I'd be going back to anytime soon, and I suspect it is currently mucho frio over there. Lodz, and Wroclaw are the two cities in question. I'm not that keen to be honest, even though I have the form which asks:

Availability :
Nationality :
Expected Per day rate:
Current Location :

Is this like being handed a blank cheque? :D

There has been some interest much closer to where my daughter lives, and the contract length (short) and salary (another world compared to what I've been living off!) are pretty decent. So I guess if one of those gained traction, I would suffer the cold shitty-assed UK weather for a fixed period of time, and make the most of the weekend time with visits to see this person...

She's 13 in March and I suspect will be taller than her mother soon - which I find totally amusing and excellent. She'll need the height though for swimming, and like my late father, is pretty good at Water Polo - good enough to mix it with the boys, who are quite partial to elbows and underwater kicks apparently.

6ft 1 / 186 cm though is asking a lot, Dad still winning... :)

So yeah, she's well, seems happy, and that's good enough for me for the time-being. I did think about not saying anything about the possibility of a move back to the UK, but decided to mention that there was a chance, without making too big a deal out of it. I'm going to leave it in the hands of the employment gods and if a contract comes up in Nottingham or close by, I'll likely take it.

In the mean time, 2/3 meals a day, a bit of exercise, and a fair amount of Steem.

Thanks for reading

Asher

Gorgeous kid you got there.
Daughters are fantastic; just want to pause her at this age for a decade or so.

Cute! And thank you.

They aren't so bad at any age up to now. I might not be sayin that when the teens hit though!

which is just a smidge over 73 kg. To give a bit of context, I'm about 6 foot 1 - 186 cms,

I am 83 kg and and 20 cm shorter ... oops.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say I'm a good 10kg under the 'right' weight for my height ;)

Edit: Hang on, that doesn't sound too complimentary! :D

73 would be my goal weight I think. Unfortunately they keep moving the goalposts behind a block of chocolate, a cake and a bag of chips....

So we just need to juggle 10 kg between us and we are set. Can I have the muscle though and not the chocolate?

It is all chocolate

I've seen you half naked and don't believe ya :P

If you had played your cards right...

Heard that one before!

Here’s to everything falling into place soon
She is already pretty tall .... and pretty 😁
My son is in competitive swimming too and 14 this year, waiting his growth spurt 😅 .... wanna guess his name😉

Aww, thanks :) Yes, hopefully things will fall into place and my that place be a good one.

I have no clue as to your sons name, Asher? :D

Yes it is 😊

What! 😁😁😁

What a fantastic choice you have made there!

Where are you from, what's the reason for choosing the name?

hahahaha
But of course
OK, I hope you have some time to read this...

I am from Malaysia
When I was younger like maybe 12, I was reading the Bible and came across the name and what it meant. I immediately knew, if I had a son, that would be the name.
So it was tucked away and many many years later, when I got pregnant with my first one and found out it was a girl.... I wasn't sure what to do.
What if I stopped at one, what if I didn't have a boy... should I name her Asheryn or Asherly or ... something like that....decisions..decisions!!
Well I didn't...and I did have a boy after that... and that's where the story ends....
Thank you for reading @abh12345 ;p

Nice :)

In the past I have read through the takes in the Bible relating to the name. Maybe my memory is failing me but I didn't think Asher played a great part! However, I like the meaning of the name in Hebrew, so I'm glad it's been assigned to me :)

Asherley haha. Thanks for sharing your story :)

Yes it was just a name in the Bible.... the son of son of son ....one of those hahaha
But I liked what it meant and the sound of it :D

You are most welcome :D

That's light... I'm just <13 stone @ 6'3".

It'd easy to lose weight when you just get into the 3 simple meals a day zone.

Job prospects sound like they're picking up at least!

The UK's not so bad!

I used to be about that, lost muscle and beer weight this past year.

Not too bad, for a stint, I could take it😊

Time to to take up circuit training maybe!

It's sort of what I've been doing these past few weeks, plus bits and bobs whilst waiting for the kettle to boil!

Aw. That's so lovely to see you with your daughter and you both looking happy.

I hope you get a job in the UK. The weather seems a small price to pay. 😂

Thank you Gillian, she's a sweetie 😊😊😊

Yeah, I should just man up and get on with it. Let's see what the employment gods decide...

Recruiters always like to maintain their metrics and touch points high but it is terrible for those seeking a position. Here in the US, recruiters are being cutoff and more applicants are goinf directly to companies. Wish you the best my friend!

Right. It is a big downer for those seeking, them not being serious in what is a very serious time for 'us'. Thanks!

She looks just like you <3

I hope so, to a point 😁

@abh12345, Stay blessed both of you and those smiles are expressing everything. Wish that you will going to get the perfect and blessed job brother. Stay blessed. 🙂

Thank you @chireerocks, it was great to spend time with her. And thank you for the wishes towards getting the right job.

Welcome and have a great time ahead brother. 🙂

Don't worry middle aged spread will come and you will have to blow the lilo up more than normal.

LOL

As long as i'm in a place where pink li-lo's are worth owning, I'm OK with that :)

What is a "scale"?
What information gain do I have, by knowing my weight?
:))

I knew a guy, playing water polo semi professional.
He said, they all have long toenails.. Yeah, anything goes under the waterline...
Quite a fierce sport

Something like this :)

For sure, my dad told me the pool was often red when he'd finished a match - showed me the scars on his lower legs too - fierce!

3 inches shorter and five kilos heavier! Your current weight was my kung-fu competition weight when I was a bright young thing. If you went over 75 kilos you went into the heavy weight bracket which was a bit shit as those bastards were all vin diesel lookalikes.

You are right about those people that just want you on their books, they are bloody annoying. Whilst Valencia would rawk I do hope you get a job near your wee (not so wee) lass, she looks a smasher!

aww thanks buddy! She is indeed one of those :)

Sounds like it was essential to stay under 75, I wouldn't fancy a match-up with Mr Diesel sir.

You are right about those people that just want you on their books, they are bloody annoying.

Absolute twats!

I get them on the phone and on LinkedIn, I am like, FFS, beat it!!

And yeah, the big boys weren't fun to play with. Yeek, that sounds bad

I was thinking about calling back and giving them a piece of my mind. And my mind is full of shit :)

They would update your profile dynamic communicator, on all levels lol!

I think I'm about 75kg at 175cm... So you've got me on height, but I'd like to think I've got you on ninja skills.

Recruiters are the absolute worst... it's honestly never ending... and I'm constantly bombarded with jobs that are absolutely nothing like what I normally do. If they could just take a second to read my actual experience, that'd be great.

I will say though, that when I first moved to the US, no one would touch me because I didn't have a greencard, even though I was eligible for a super easy work visa... even jobs I was massively overqualified for, I'd just get rejected straight up... it was only recruiters that knew the system well enough to get my foot in the door... so I probably wouldn't be here without them... but since then, they've been just the worst. I can't wait until blockchain/AI replaces them somehow.

Considering I have no ninja skills, I would agree with you there!

The US sounds like the worst place for a non-resident to get a job - I've not even bothered looking there.

Glad you got sorted in the end - sounds like you need to find all these sites you are registered on and stick some fake details in! :D

The funny thing is... the US literally has the easiest work visa for us... but US companies are so scared of immigration anything, that having a brilliant visa means almost nothing.

Haha, that's a great idea!
Kindest regards,

Beautiful girl. You must be very proud of her.
I was born in Poland and lived close to Wroclaw, for 14 years until I moved to Canada.
