First Energy Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio

Match Preview

The series once referred to as the “Battle for Ohio” between the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals will find its way back on the shores of Lake Erie Sunday as the winless Browns will try to prevent a winless season by taking on a banged-up Cincinnati Bengals team who are clinging to the slimmest of hopes for a playoff birth and looking to get back on track. A game where players are playing for their jobs next year and scouting future rookies this may be, but make no mistake, the line is always close and hard to pick when these two teams go at it on the gridiron. The Browns are a 6 point dawg in this one, folks.

Clearly thus far, the Cincinnati Bengals have outperformed the Cleveland Browns on both sides of the ball this season. However, with key injuries and the season starting to fade for the Bengals, could the six points be enough to cover? Hugh Jackson in his first year as head coach with Cleveland has managed to keep games close until the later stages of the game, relying on the bond to continue forming amongst his young defensive unit and the emergence of key building blocks which may prove to be the difference.

Offensive Expectations

In this game, expect to see a lot of Jeremy Hill and Tyler Eifert to set the pace of Andy Dalton, who will be playing sans 5 time pro-bowler A.J. Green who is out recovering from a pulled hammy as well as Brandon LaFell still listed as questionable as of Wednesday evening.

Hill, who rushed for a career-high 168 yards and scored on a 74-yard run in the teams’ earlier matchup this October should continue to pound the rock and test the inexperienced Browns D-Line and provide a balance for the passing attack. With Giovani Bernard out for the season with a torn ACL in Week 11 against Buffalo, the backfield is his dinner table to eat. A definite plug and play for you fantasy fans out there.

Dalton will rely on a young and inexperienced receiving corps who will Browns' defense that has given up a league-high 28 touchdown passes as well as a defensive line has a league-low 17 sacks. Tyler Eifert should be a reliable outlet, with rookie Tyler Boyd showing flashes of brilliance of late. Hoever, expect Boyd to get the Joe Haden assignment if LaFell is to sit.

Defensive Expectations

The experienced defensive line of the Bengals featuring Carlos Dunlap, Domaka Peko and Geno Adkins should test the Browns’ patchwork offensive line. A solid linebacker corps with the infamous Vontaze Burfict as well as former Cleveland Brown Karlos Dansby should create pressure for the passing game and control the run.

Offensive Expectations

With the expected return of Robert Griffin III, the Browns offense will continue to search for answers with the offensive playbook that has yet to show sustainable drives, keeping the defense off of the field. A balanced attack featuring Isaiah Crowell’s inside running, short routes to pro bowl TE Gary Barnidge and speedy RB Duke Johnson as well as keeping the run defense honest with long routes to surprise sensation WR Terrelle Pryor should be the keys to victory, if executed properly.

RGIII will look to navigate an offense that has seen five quarterbacks since his week 1 injury find icebergs in the cold waters of opposing defenses. However, with the emergence of Terrelle Pryor, who has proven to have made the conversion to WR from his quarterback days as well as improving 1st round WR Corey Coleman gaining consistency, there may be smoother sailing than he had in his disappointing Week 1 performance.

Defensive Expectations

A very young and hungry defensive front seven for the Cleveland Browns is led by second year first round pick DT Danny Shelton, as well as rookies DE Emmanuel Ogbah and impressive 6’7” DE Carl Nassib. Defensive Coordinator Ray Horton’s signature success at defense has taken a while with the lack of experienced players, with only CB Joe Haden and CB Tramon Williams as their veterans. The Browns will need big plays from key players Nassib and Ogbah as well as newcomer LB Jamie Collins to keep Hill and Eifert at bay.

How to Play

  • Vote on the main post to enter the bet (main post rewards will also be added to the Stake Pool).

  • Cast your Vote Bet on ONLY ONE outcome for which you bet on for the win (Multiple comment votes will be automatically disqualified by the script, unvote and revote counts as multiple votes and will be disqualified).

  • After 24 hours, the post and related game comments payout to the pool; remember 25% voters rewards are deducted from the total post payout value first as per Steem curation rules. Voters are rewarded in standard fashion in proportion to their Steem Power holdings.

The Stake Pool:

  • The remaining 75% of the total payout is paid out in 50% Steem Power and 50% in liquid currencies, the latter now varies in payout ratio after the new fork. To make the process less complicated, we have decided to use all paid out SBD to buy Steem in the internal market to create a grand total Steem Stake Pool.

  • 30% of the Stake Pool will be retained, of which 15% will go to the writer/sports presenter of the post, and the 15% balance towards editing, development and advertising.

  • 70% of the Stake Pool will be held until the event/game outcome is determined.

  • Once the winning outcome is determined, we will execute a proprietary developed script that will divide and pay out the Steem rewards equally, using the Power Up method, to Mass Distribute SP to all participants that voted on the main post as the entrance fee as well as voted on the correct comment representing the winning outcome.

  • Only participants with a Reputation of 35 or more will qualify to earn SP rewards, but non-qualifiers can still vote and comment in support of the redistribution initiative.

  • Entry cut-off time is the earlier of the post payout or the start of the event.

  • @steemsports in the unlikely event that when the Stake Pool is divided up between the winners and the nomenclature resolution goes below the third decimal place (example: 0.0001), then Steem decimal restrictions won’t allow a payout and the pool will carry over to the next game.

  • Please vote responsibly :).

Bengals obviously should win with strong defense versus lackluster or lack of anything the Browns can put up against them.

I'm a Browns fan and took the Bengals to temper my emotional reaction. Lol
