We are only 16 days away from the 2018 Winter Olympics! The excitement is building all over the world as athletes make their final preparations for the Games. We are going to give you great coverage every day and discuss all of the sports. One of my favorite sports to watch is Olympic Hockey.

There are normally the stars of the National Hockey League participating for teams all over the world in the Winter Games. But this year, that is not going to happen. The NHL has been supplying a 2 week break since 1998 so the professional players could play for their home countries. There were several factors that have contributed to this decision and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman could not secure a good deal for the league and players.

So how will this affect the ratings for one of the most popular sports in the 2018 Winter Olympics? It is already going to be a tough sell in the United States since the Games take place in South Korea. The main events will all be on tape delay and with the advancement of social media, it will be hard to keep the American public from knowing the results ahead of time. The lack of star power will also be a drag. Sure, there is potential to have new stars born by great play and gold medals, but if no one is watching, it won’t matter.

NHL will go to the next Olympics, because without that agreement national federations won't participate in the next World Cup of Hockey, if NHL tries to hold it one more time.
And NHL still wants Chinese market, so they'll want to show best players in China.
But for the current year - Olympics is less interesting tournament than even World Championship, "thanks" to "mister" Bettman.
