The illustrious and dramatic career of the longest serving manager in the English Premier League is generating lots of talking points at the moment, as reports suggests that Monsieur Arsene Wenger’s position as the manager of the Arsenal FC of England, is set to be reviewed at the end of the current 2017/2018 EPL season.
As expected, when an old guard is leaving, a new guard is set to replace him. And Arsenal’s case is not going to be any different. Already, reports are pitting former Arsenal captain, Mike Arteta, and current Monaco Boss, Leonardo Jardim as top candidates to be considered. The French Manager who had finished in the top-four in 21 previous EPL seasons prior to last season, saw his side outplayed, outwitted and bedazzled in Sunday’s Carabao Cup where Arsenal lost 3 – 0.
The defeat to City means that Wenger who has either won a trophy or finished in the top four in the last two decades in his English Football management, would hope on winning the Europa League as a means of featuring in the Champions League for next season; as a top-four finish looks a bit unrealistic for the Gunners given their inconsistent run of form.
The current development has given the Arsenal board some concerns, and lack of a Premier League title challenge has led the club’s hierarchy to consider changes. Presently, Arsenal is far from the Champions League position by as much as 10-points and a second season without Champions League competition would lead to a severe pressure and scrutiny about Wenger’s role at the club.
Calls for him to leave at the end of the season are already being made, by top football experts and supporters of the London side. However, it is expected that the club would consider every perspective in view before reaching a decision on the way forward and on the 68-year old manager’s position.
Managers being considered as possible replacement for Monsieur Wenger include:
* Mikel Arteta – Former Captain of Arsenal and current assistant to Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.
* Thierry Henry – Gunner Legend and former French forward, current assistant to Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national side.
* Carlo Ancelotti – Former Chelsea, Ac Milan, and Real Madrid Manager who is currently without a job after being sacked by Bayern Munich few weeks into the current season.
* Joachim Low – Current coach of the German national side who has been in national team management for the last 12 years.
* Leonardo Jardim – Current manager of Monaco who led the French side to win their first League title in 17 years.
* Brendan Rodgers – Manager of Scottish side, Celtic. Rodgers and his lads have been at the helm of Scottish football in the last three seasons.
Despite the need for a change at Arsenal the board would not seek to destabilize the team with any imminent decision as it could totally ruin any minute chance Arsenal may have to salvage something from the remainder of the season. Wenger himself remains confident that he can rally his side to finish in the top four even with just about 11 games left for them in the league. There is presently a 10-points gap between them and 4th placed London rival, Tottenham, with another London rival sandwiched in between them.
Only time would tell whether he and his side can make it into the top-four; as his side have the worst record among the top-six in the EPL, and any rumours and uncertainty over his future at this stage of the season would only do him and the club more harm than good.

Brendan Rodgers would be interesting for Arsenal, he left under a cloud when Liverpool sacked him but for a time while he was in charge they played some decent football.

Yea, I do see your point. Brendan Rodgers had some good moments with the Liverpool side, when he was in charge. He would be an interesting choice for Arsenal if he gets to replace Wenger. Still not sure he's at that top level yet though. In every sense of high regard, his present club, Celtic, aren't exactly a top team in Europe, neither can they be comparable or highly competitive against even the lowest team in the EPL at the moment - West Brom. But time would sort this debate out eventually. Thanks for reading @jclark

I've just read an article which threw out Zidane as a possible candidate. Real Madrid just lost tonight leaving them 3rd, way behind Barca. If they sack him then surely Arsenal would be interested, I would think so anyway.
He's 67/1 at the bookies to be next Arsenal manager, may be worth a little bet.

The perfect manager for Arsenal should be Thomas Tuchel, he did a good job in Dortmund, and I think he is the answer for this club. Brendan Rodgers? LOL, nope.
