Pitcher Showdown
For the Red Sox, David Pomeranz will take the mound. Boston acquired the all-star pitcher, Pomeranz from the Padres right before the trade deadline last season. Last season, David Pomeranz went 3-5 with Boston with a 4.59 ERA and 71 strikeouts through 14 games. This year, the former all-star is not doing much better, he is 4-3 with a 4.70 ERA and he's tossed 56 strikeouts. But, he may be turning things around as he threw 11 strikeouts in his last game versus the Rangers and he ended up getting the W.
The veteran that will be taking the mound for the Chicago White Sox is ole' man Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey, who started his MLB career in 2006 with the New York Mets, then went to Minnesota in 2013, then he went to Detroit in 2016, now resides with the White Sox. Through seven games, he is 2-4 with a 4.41 ERA and he's only tossed 17 strikeouts. But, Pelfrey is more of a ground ball pitcher and he is riding a two game win streak coming into this match up versus a hot-hitting, Boston Red Sox. All in all, he will look to move his winning streak to three games!
Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox, 28-23, were on fire last night against the White Sox, well, at least the bats were. Chris Sale faced his former team last night and he didn't live up to his expectations. Through 5 innings, he gave up 10 hits, 6 runs, and threw 9 strikeouts. Luckily, the Red Sox bats saved him, Devin Marrero, the rookie, hit two home runs, Mookie Betts hit a solo blast, Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a 3 run shot to right field, Xander Bogaerts hit a homer, and finally, the pinch hiter in the ninth inning, Mitch Moreland hit a homer. That is a lot of home runs people!
The Red Sox have been red hot in their last 10 games, as they have a 7-3 record through those ten. They are 3 games behind first, and the first place team is the Yankees. The Red Sox rank 3rd in the league in batting average and second in the league in OBP%. According to Vegas, the Red Sox are the heavy favorite to win the game as they are -154.
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox, 24-27, are coming into this game having scored 7 runs last night. And, six of the seven runs came from the ace, Chris Sale, that is pretty impressive if I'd say so myself. Leury Garcia went 3/5 with a RBI and a double, Frazier went 1/4 with 2 RBI's and a home run and Tim Anderson went 2/5 with 2 RBI's and a homer. Currently, the White Sox trail 3.5 games behind two teams who are tied for first, the Indians and Twins. The White Sox have very few veterans on their team, they have mostly young players who have only been in the league one or two years, so expect the White Sox to do some damage in the coming years.
The White Sox are ranked third in the league for ERA allowed and 2nd in the league for batting average against. Fun fact: Matt Davidson tied Jose Abreu for the team lead in home runs with his 10th of the season on Sunday. Matt Davidson and Aaron Judge are the only AL rookies leading their teams in home runs hit this year. If Pomeranz pitching is off, like it has been as of late, I'd expect to see Chicago come out on top in the Sox Series. But, if Pomeranz pitching is on the spot, I'd expect Boston to come out on top in the Sox Series!
White Sox!
