Very few teams can take a punch like Sean Dyche’s Burnley. They have had countless impressive performances already this season. They looked ready to take points off Jose Mourinho’s faltering title challenger, until an Anthony Martial goal sealed all three points for the Manchester Club.

United got the only goal of the match in the 54th minute, It was Martial’s 3rd in four games. The goal itself was an absolute wonder as the Frenchman struck off the bar from 12 yards out after some fantastic build-up involving an impressive pass from Romelu Lukaku. Burnley had many chances to score themselves, with a Johann Gudmundsson’s free-kick hitting the bar, but after everything was said and done, Burnley still found themselves winless after 8 games in all competitions.

The result meant that Manchester United were only 9 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City who later battled to a 3-1 victory against Newcastle United in their late kick-off late on Saturday. Burnley is now down to eight. Once again, Henrikh Mkhitaryan was left out of the match day squad as rumors continue to swell about a swap deal with Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez continue, with the Chilean frontman also missing Arsenal’s win over Crystal Palace

In a first half where chances were few and far between each other, neither side could adequately dominate the proceedings, Ashley Young came closest to opening scoring, with a quick nutmeg of Gudmundsson near the corner flag and was followed by a quick shot that curled just wide of the post. United finally broke through just nine minutes into the second half through Anthony Martial who finished with a plum after being found in space by Lukaku who held up play very well on the right.

Gudmundsson hit the upright just three minutes after United went ahead. The Icelandic midfielder swung in a dipping cross that just barely missed Ashley Barnes at the far post. Martial could have added another late goal after he forced a fine save out of Pope at the near post after once again being found in space in the penalty area.
Despite a late Burnley rally, Manchester United held on to their 5th consecutive clean sheet in all competitions as they look to keep up with City in the league challenge. Thank you for following @steemsports and you can find me @feekayo

Martial is a player with very high potential, he just needs to be more consistent and have the backing of a manager that believes in his talent more.
