The Charlotte Hornets have constantly made mistakes while scouting NBA prospects. They've struggled to become a contender in the Eastern Conference as a consequence of the mistakes they have made during the NBA drafts. Over the last 10 years, their scouts failed to choose the right prospect despite constantly having their pick among the top 10. And that left the Hornets with a lack of success and being stuck with players with problematic contracts. Now we are going to let you know some of the worst draft mistakes of the franchise over the last decade.

Noah Vonleh

Noah Vonleh was drafted ninth overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014 NBA draft. He has a lot of potential and looked like a future star. But Noah didn’t have much of a chance to show what he can do with this team despite not being a true contender. It feels like the Hornets gave up too early on him, considering how high of a ceiling it looked like he was going to have. He was being compared to Chris Bosh during his college days, but he was not able to meet all expectations, and ended up being a rotation player in the rebuilding Chicago Bulls. They would’ve drafted Dario Saric, Zach Lavine, Garry Harris, Jusuf Nurkic or even Nikola Jokic.

Cody Zeller

The Hornets drafted Cody Zeller fourth overall out of Indiana University. He was a great option in the paint in his college days. But, he was not able to become a true option at the NBA level. Each of the Zeller Brothers have came up short as centers in the NBA. They lack offensive and defensive awareness, which is needed become consistent rotation players, and they cannot go toe-to-toe against any stronger or skillful big men. The Hornets would've been better if they selected players like Steven Adams, Dennis Schroder, CJ McCollum or even Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Malik Monk

Malik Monk was drafted 11th overall by the Hornets in the 2017 NBA Draft. Monk was a versatile scoring wingman during his brief NCAA stint. The Hornets lacked depth at the shooting guard position, so they end up drafting Monk to strengthen their 2 spot. But, Monk failed to make an impact on the Hornets team. It seems when his shots were not falling, he looked out of rhythm and lacked confidence. The Hornets made a huge mistake passing on Kyle Kuzma and/or Donovan Mitchell.

Michael Kid-Gilchrist

The second overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft Michael Kid-Gilchrist was anticipated to be a two-way star, an athletic scorer, and a lockdown wing defender. He was a great defender, but his poor shooting stroke held him back. He struggled to become a reliable scorer because he could not fix his shooting stroke and his shot was off-point. Injuries also ruined his career and halted him from having a chance to develop. He was drafted as high as 2nd overall after an incredible year at Kentucky, but he’s been a bust since his early years in the league and the Hornets would’ve been better off by drafting Dion Waiters, Khris Middleton, Draymond Green, Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond or Damian Lillard.
