Two goals from soon to be the second choice striker at Chelsea Michy Batshuayi and another from Willian was enough to secure a victory against an under-strength Arsenal. With the FA Cup final defeat still fresh in the minds of the Chelsea fans, this game served as an opportunity to get one back over the team that denied them a double last season, and they did just that showing more hunger and urgency than their Arsenal counterpart which eventually paid off for them scoring three goals to none.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insisted beforehand that a game against their London rival “is never a friendly” but his side were punished for some very slack defensive work by a ruthless Chelsea. The pairing of Mertesacker, Bielik, and Monreal could not hold out the resilient attack of the Blues.

After the club-record signing of Alvaro Morata, Batshuayi was out to prove himself to coach Antonio Conte, and he took his chances very well scoring two wonderful goals and another wrongly ruled out as offside. Willian and Batshuayi scored in quick succession in the space of two minutes in the first half to put the game out of reach for the Gunners, and the Belgian striker added a second with a sublime strike in the second half to make it 3-0.

Antonio Conte praised Batshuayi’s effort after the game, he said “Last season it was a difficult season for Michy but don’t forget he scored a very important goal to give us the title. I think last season he had a bit of difficulty because it is not easy to play in the Premier League, it is a physical league and a very strong league. After one year he is working very well, and he is improving. Me and my staff want to improve every player, and Batshuayi is a young player with great potential, and it is important for him and for us to work in this way, and for him to understand what I want. For me, the striker is very important, he is the point of reference. If he stays in the right position, it is easier for us, for the team and to play good football.”

Chelsea missed two clear chances in a lively start to the game, both Willian and Victor Moses missed chances to put Chelsea ahead. Minutes later, Pedro collided with Ospina and was forced to be replaced by Jeremie Boga. One of Arsenal’s few chances fell to Ramsey after a superb pass from Mesut Ozil, but the Welsh were unable to put it to the back of the net. A corner from Chelsea after series of saves from Ospina saw Batshuayi score, but the goal was flagged for offside. Moments later, the goal finally came when Willian was allowed to drive towards the center of the box and cut back onto his right foot before bending a fine low shot in off the right-hand post. Just over a minute later, Chelsea doubled their lead when Batshuayi took full advantage of a disorganized Arsenal defense to bend a superb left-foot shot beyond Ospina from 18 yards out.

The third goal came from the left flank when Marcos Alonso skipped easily past Oxlade-Chamberlain and cut the ball back to Batshuayi, who blasted the ball in from 20-yards out. Arsenal lifted a trophy against Bayern Munich a few days ago but missed out on more silverware. The next meeting between these two teams will be in the Community Shield which will be played before the start of the new English Premier League season.
