Another one in the books.... 12 Rounds of Action End in a Draw!
How should we feel about this result? Both men seemed eager in the late stages of the fight to finish each other, but there was a clear victor in terms of ring control and aggression. Gennady Golovkin was the only man to really back Canelo up and eat his shots for the majority of 9 rounds; every engagement seemed as though men pulled punches, and neither truly put themselves in the fire regardless.
It was a shameful result as one of the scorecards should not even be recognized. If two judges had seen a draw, and one saw it going either way...that would more understandable than the 118-110 score given by judge Byrd. This would stake the claim that Golovkin only took two rounds from Canelo in a very close fight which he edged most every round. Anyone watching this fight can plainly see that Golovkin obviously won more than six minutes of this fight! Byrd has been on the wilder side of some scoring, as has Canelo! Against Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout, Canelo received a winning scorecard by at least one judge, and by a huge margin. The collusion between Golden Boy and most every sponsorship promoter leads to unwinnable fights, and creates debacles of would-be classics!
I personally gave 9 rounds to Golovkin as I thought Canelo's shots, although cleaner, were delivered at a much lower rate. Canelo showed excellent boxing and attrition against the bigger man, his head movement and ability to stay out of trouble on the ropes was impressive. He moved up a weight class to take the titles, and for that I respect him. This was a very close fight, and the age of Golovkin has definitely shown through. He is in his mid thirties, and he has given most everything he's had to the sport. Both men will go down as legends, but not from this fight...
Boxing will always have that x factor of judging, same with most every combat sport. This is why every trainer tells their fighter to never let it go to the cards, you can never let your fate rest in someone else's hands! It is a shame that this will be forgotten in the next week, and this judge will be hired many times in the future. It is all a plan, and Canelo is the Golden Boy of this era. We have seen many ridiculous robberies, some including the greatest fighters of all time! Whittaker vs. Chavez, Kovalev vs. Ward..old school or new school it doesn't matter: some things never change....boxing will never change.
replay is solution

You mean a rematch?

Not a complete tragedy for both of the fighters as the rematch will be a much larger payout.

This is the only good part of the outcome... in a rematch, perhaps we'll see a definitive winner and it doesn't go to the cards. Although it could be hard to follow up this fight, sounds like it was amazing.

I actually thought the decision of a wasn't bad. I actually thought if anyone won it was Canelo because of his more telling shots that landed flush in the face.

True but in terms of aggression and overall willingness to fight...

I had GGG winning by 2 Rounds, not a robbery though, a rematch will be set, Boxing win, Fans Win. What is really a Shame is the scorecard of judge Adalaide or whathever is bloody name is, She is a disgrace as a Judge and Shouldn't be allowed to judge anymore, 118-110 was a total nonsense!

Yeah she's awful. De La Hoya's crack money bought that decision.. (I might've gone too far on that one).
