The Houston representative showed exactly why he is one of the most feared heavyweights in the world; even after a barraging three rounds of being pummelled on the ground, Derrick Lewis chose to give it one last shot in the last two minutes of his Saturday bout and let the hands go...
Marcin Tybura is one of the most durable and forward thinking heavyweights in the game. After five rounds with Fabricio Werdum late last year, Tybura seemed to have learned a lot and grown in terms of his movement and grappling excellenece... unfortuntaely it just wasn't enough.
Tybura easily won two of the two rounds fought, and he put immense damage on Beast as he rode into mount and crammed punches and elbows downward all night. Lewis did well to retain position at times, but until two minutes left in the fight... he really struggled with the grappling.
Lewis is absolutely one of the most durable fighters I have ever seen. The man can take unreal damage, and even in his TKO loss to Mark Hunt, it wasn't from the bludgeoning punches, it was more him being tired and not being able to handle a five round main event fight.
If one is in a three rounder with Derrick Lewis, they must stay out of danger for two and make the third round count most. Lewis has finished many grapplers in the third round as he wears them out with his weight and size, and unleashes a final barrage he knows can end anyone...
I enjoyed Lewis' win more than his performance, I really am not a fan of his as he lacks tremendous skill, but his humor and spirit carries nicely for the UFC. Lewis is actually more of a selling point than the UFC may think.. "Black Beast is in this ho, swangin' and bangin'!"
he has terrible powers
