It was a great second week of matches in the English Premier League that saw Manchester United continue their strong start to the season with a commanding win over Swansea. There was also a defeat for Spurs at their new home for the season, Wembley, making many to wonder if Spurs will have a great season.
This question, and many others, will be answered when the EPL continues this weekend. We can expect a lot of great footballing action. Let’s take a look at the matches.
Liverpool vs Arsenal (Sunday 27th August, 15:00 GMT)
Liverpool have had a pretty decent start to the season. They won their last match against Crystal Palace. A game Jurgen Klopp had to rest some players to prepare for their Champions League play-off return leg match, a game they went on to win 4-2. They have also managed to hold on to Philippe Coutinho, rejecting a fourth bid from Barcelona.
Arsenal lost their last game away to Stoke and we can’t help but wonder if this is going to be another one of those seasons for Arsenal. But they will be boosted by the return of Alexis Sanchez to full training. And Arsene Wenger has said he might start the game against Liverpool.
Predictions: Jurgen Klopp boasts a good record against the top teams in EPL. Arsenal can be expected to play better if Sanchez gets to start, as he might take advantage of a not so good Liverpool defense. It will be a tight game, but with the recent performances of Liverpool’s attack, they can be expected to win this.
Chelsea vs Everton (Sunday 27th August, 12:30 GMT)
After a disappointing opening weekend loss to Burnley, the defending Champions bounced back and got a win at Wembley over Tottenham. Even though they won, they were totally outplayed by a Spurs side that lacked finishing. Wayne Rooney has enjoyed a good start to his second stint at Everton. He has scored in both fixtures and after retiring from international football earlier this week, he will be focused on dedicating all his time to helping Everton, who are still unbeaten this season.
Predictions: Everton will be boosted by the addition of Sigurdsson to the team, and he can pose a major problem for the champions. However, Chelsea are also looking good as their players are returning from injuries and suspensions. The Champions should be able to secure three points here.
Manchester United vs Leicester (Saturday 26th August, 16:30 GMT)
Unbeaten, and high-scoring, Manchester United have enjoyed a fantastic start to their season. Two 4-0 wins make them early favorites to win the league. And they will be looking to secure another win when they host Leicester. Leicester, after an opening day loss to Arsenal, won their last match and will be looking to deny the Red Devils all the points.
Predictions: Leicester’s defense might not be able to contain United’s lethal attack, and Jose Mourinho will like to garner all points he can get before meeting the tougher teams, so it should be a win for United.
Bournemouth vs Manchester City (Saturday 26th August, 11:30 GMT)
Manchester City had to come from behind to salvage a draw against Everton on Monday. Substitute, Raheem Sterling, got the goal in the 87th minute despite having a heavy attacking squad on the field. They will be looking to find their goal scoring rhythm when they face a Bournemouth side that have not had the best start to the season.
Predictions: Manchester City will win this game. What remains to be seen is by how much.
Tottenham vs Burnley (Sunday 27th August, 15:00 GMT)
The Wembley curse? That’s what most Spurs fan were wondering when they lost yet another game at their new home for the season. Coach, Mauricio Pochettino believes that it’s just a fallacy, and we will all be hoping he’s right when they take on Burnley at Wembley. Burnley were shock winners over champions Chelsea on opening day, showing that they mean business this season.
Predictions: Tottenham have what it takes to beat Burnley, and will be hoping to start off the first of many wins at their new home.
Watford vs Brighton and Hove Albion (Saturday 26th August, 14:00 GMT)
Watford will face new comers Brighton in what can be expected to be a low scoring affair as both teams are more comfortable when they are not dictating the pace of the game.
Predictions: A Watford side have more EPL experience and that might just be what they need to have the edge over the new boys.
Newcastle vs West Ham United (Saturday 26th August, 14:00 GMT)
Both teams are still yet to register a win this season, with Newcastle even yet to score. But West ham showed promise in their last game against Southampton, where Chicharito opened his account for the season with two goals.
Huddersfield vs Southampton (Saturday 26th August, 14:00 GMT)
2 wins in 2 games, new boys Huddersfield are totally at home in the top flight of English football. And they will face a tougher challenge in Southampton.
Predictions: Southampton boast a quality side, but Huddersfield have shown the fight they have in them. Southampton night be favourites, but Huddersfield have what it takes to upset them.
Crystal Palace vs Swansea (Saturday 26th August, 14:00 GMT)
Crystal Palace are still yet to win and also haven’t scored this season. Swansea too have endured a rough start to the season and haven’t register a goal too. The two teams will be hoping to improve their luck when they face off.
Predictions: Swansea lost main man Sigurdsson to Everton, so they have no major attacking threat. Crystal Palace might just be able to exploit that and get a win.
West Brom vs Stoke (Sunday 27th August, 12:30 GMT)
West Brom also are unbeaten this season and will face off with a Stoke side that handed Arsenal a loss last week.
Predictions: Form favours West Brom but Stoke might just pull an upset. It is going to be a low scoring affair as both teams are not big scorers.
