The Final 4 is in San Antonio this Saturday and we will have a new team crowned as the 2018 NCAA Tournament Champions. Leading up to the games, we want to take a look at some of the super stars of the tournament so far. First, we will take a look at Villanova’s Jalen Brunson. He is their junior point guard that is the heart and soul of the team and is the undoubted leader of this team.

Jalen Brunson was born in the Chicagoland suburb called Lincolnshire back in 1996. His dad, Rick Brunson, was a professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls. Rick Brunson played his college ball at Temple University for head coach John Cheney, but it was Temple’s bitter and crosstown rival that would land Jalen. Villanova head coach Jay Wright started recruiting Jalen Brunson at a young age. He would frequent his AAU games every summer and was hell bent on getting the talented left in a Wildcats uniform.

Brunson jumped right into the spot light as a freshman and played starters minutes at 24 minutes per game. His potential was seen immediately and he fit in with what would be a historic team. Brunson would average 9.6 points per game and help to lead the team to the 2015 National Championship. It was quite the impressive start to his career at Villanova.

The sophomore year for Jalen was even better. He was looked upon to run the point with little help. He had Ryan Arcidiacono to lean on the year before but now this was turning more into his team. Brunson would average 14.7 points per game but his season did not end in the magical fashion that his previous one did. Villanova would get bounced out of the NCAA Tournament and the season was over.

Jalen Brunson came back for his junior season and it has been a HUGE success. He has his team back in the Final 4 for the second time in three years and are the favorite to win the National Championship. Brunson is likely to win the National Player of the Year Award at seasons end. His 19.2 points per game is the best on the team. But he won’t be satisfied unless this year ends up like his freshman year, with the cutting down of the nets.
