Saturday night be will be hailed as one of the finest exhibitions the UFC has ever put on as an organization. We not only saw incredible upsets on all fronts with three championship titles changing hands, we witnessed the return and rise of now middleweight champion George St. Pierre. Not only is this man the undoubted greatest welterweight fighter of all time, he now claims throne to the middleweight belt in an era far in the future from his own.
Many including myself counted out the 36 year old pride of Canada, but that doubt has since ceased...and by all means call him the greatest to have ever done it! An impressive jab and uber athleticism that GSP has always trademarked made an appearance in the fight, and although the technique wasn't shocking, the ability to carry power and endurance was.
George truly did use the wisdom he gained with his time off to become a better fighter, there is no such thing as rust when your mind and body are completely focused on the task at hand. Not only was it a bloody battle filled with ups and downs, it was also a showing GSP's true character in that he survived a brutal onslaught of elbows and punches from the former middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
The biggest takeaway from last night is that heart and hard work win fights. Both of the men sharing the main event were in their starting prime when I was 18 years old, and that was a decade ago. At the top level of combat sports we see a 36 and 38 year old man go to war, the experience and courage of those years counts for much more than any number labelled to their body. It was absolutely enthralling, New York and Madison Square Garden brings out the fire in people. UFC 217 is surely worth a watch, even if you now know how it ends...
This pay per view was worth paying. I really enjoyed all the fights, especially the last fight. I think he is better at welterweight, maybe a fight with Woodley is next

lol, yes. Usually comebacks have a lot of hype but end up not so good

Nice write up. GSP was a warrior and it was great to see him fighting again, plus he looks like a fucking beast. Shame for Bisping, great fighter, he was incredible on the ground in the fight, unleashing those beast elbows and cutting GSP up. But experience prevailed and like he said in the post-fight, he waited for his moment, and he took it!

So did I. Mostly because Bisping was on a tear.
