Lonzo Ball Continues To Struggle: Here is why

The struggles continue for Lakers rookie guard Lonzo Ball. The battle between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers last night ended with a 120-115 win for Blake Griffin and company. But the bigger story out of the game was the awful performance by Ball in the loss.

Ball’s shooting woes were once again the hot topic in the post game press conference. He made only 1-7 shots including 1-6 from the 3 point line. Why does he continue to launch 3’s when he can only make 24%? Statistically, he is the worst 3 point shooter in the NBA. He is ranked 139/139.
I think the main reason that Ball continues to shoot 3’s at such a high rate is because he is terrified of driving to the rim and getting fouled. He is also the worst free throw shooter in the NBA at 42.9%. In fact, there is only one other NBA player that is shooting under 50% from the free throw line, Dwight Howard at 45.9%.

When the Lakers drafted Lonzo Ball, they expected him to be a scoring threat and not just a distributor of the ball. As a Freshman at UCLA, he shot 55.1% from the field, 41.2% from the 3 point line, and 67.3% from the free throw line. But that was in college basketball where there was little defense played against him. He also was on a team loaded with talent so Ball was not the primary focus of the offense. Also, the 3 point line in the NBA is much deeper and is clearly too far for him to shoot from.
There is one more glaring problem with Ball’s game. The mental problem. Lonzo’s dad, Lavar Ball, is the biggest loudmouth in the sports world. He is frequently on TV and Radio stirring up all sorts of controversy. He has become a lightning rod for criticism and is the most hated man involved in the sports world. Lavar’s constant media attention has to be having a negative effect on his son’s game.
If Lonzo Ball is going to be successful in the NBA, he needs to stop shooting 3’s. He should work tirelessly on becoming a great free throw shooter and instead of settling for jump shots, he must drive to the rim and utilize his speed and ball handling skills. If he continues at the pace he is on now, he will be out of the league in no time.

Well, good luck to all of them. I know they are all doing their best to to win the game. Whoever wins, we are happy for them. Thanks for posting this and I appreciate your opinion. :)

Maybe Lonzo allowed the noise to get between his ears leading to his shot being off. His loud mouth dad is no help. We shall see what happens at the end of December, lots of tough games against 1 & 2 in the west and not to discount the other teams the Lakers play in December.

Is he the same guy that said he is better than Kobe? Got a long way to hopefully he will be half as good someday.

Personally, I think he is going to be a bust. Until he changes his shot he will continue to have shooting woes from wherever he is. He plays without emotion which I find to be more of a detriment than helpful. I have nothing against him as I think he might be the one good person in his family however, he needs to separate himself from his dad and live his own life and not let his father continue to dictate his. I would give him until the end of this year and if his shooting continues to be poor would like to see Magic have someone coach him on a new shot. Either work on that now or over the off season.

Got the same feeling.

The Lakers had a bad game, they play down to the other teams level all the time. The Clippers are good, but without a few of their main players, they thought they had an easy win. After the All Star Break, I believe the Lakers will get a good winning streak going, but until then, it will be up and down.

@steemsports everyone goes through a bad phase but good times will definitely come soon 😊😊

His shot is awful. I am baffled that the Lakers as an organization haven't even attempted to work on improving it. His bad shot takes a toll on his confidence, and having his dad touting him as the greatest to ever play certainly doesn't help either. I don't think Lonzo will be a superstar, and i think the Lakers made a mistake trading Russell in oder to jump in the draft to get him. I've seen ugly shots before (Marion, Childress, LeBron even) but none as bad as Lonzo's.

one of favorite games

Many of the stars have to cope with

Lonzo will bounce back- he's just taking time to get used to the league- Steph Curry wasn't a baller in his first 20 games either

I watch most Laker games and Lonzo sucks. Throwing full court passes and rebounding is not enough to build a team around. #2 pick? Insanity :(
Thankfully they picked Kuzma afterward

His dad is a virus that is spreading. Its literally going to derail this kids young NBA career. I truthfully think his dad is trying to shine in his kids light since he never had that chance when he was younger. The guy is an absolute nut case and I truly feel bad for the Ball kids.
