The 2018 NFL Draft is almost here and we want to take a look at some of the best players that will be hearing their names called in the first round. Today we want to focus on some running backs. Next let’s take a look at Ronald Jones II out of the University of Southern California. The 6 foot tall running back left school one year early to enter the draft.
Ronald Jones II got his collegiate career started as a freshman back in 2015 for the USC Trojans. He made an immediate impact and was one of the starting running backs. Jones would have a steady work load in his first year and ran the ball 153 times for 987 yards. He would score 9 touchdowns and averaged an incredible 6.5 yards per carry.
His sophomore year was extremely similar to his freshman year, but with upward improvements. Jones would eclipse the 1,000 yard mark for the first time and increased his touchdown total to 13 on the season.
Ronald Jones II would have an incredible junior season for the Trojans. He was the featured back and was the beneficiary of quarterback Sam Darnold getting a lot of the attention on the offense. But it was Jones that put up the huge numbers. He would rush 261 times for 1,550 yards. Jones would account for 20 touchdowns and showed flashes of brilliance. He also caught a career high 19 passes on the season.
There was a clear and healthy progression in Jones time at USC. If he can continue to get better in the passing game, he has a chance for a long and prosperous NFL career. Jones should hear his name called near the end of the first round in the 2018 NFL Draft.
