The Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds will close out their 3 game weekend series in a National League Central Division game. The two team have split the first two games of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20pm Central Standard Time and can be seen on National Television on WGN and Fox Sports Ohio. It will take place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. The weather calls for a beautiful and sunny day in the low 80’s.
The Cubs had lost 5 straight to the Reds before yesterday’s exciting 8-7 comeback win. They trailed the entire game until the 8th inning when they put up 4 runs to take the lead. Victor Carantini started off the rally with a walk. Addison Russell then was walked as well. David Bote singled to right to load the bases. Ben Zobrist then ripped a double to score Caratini and Russell. And it would be Anthony Rizzo to drive in the final 2 runs, giving the Cubs the 8-7 win.
Today the Cubs will send their best pitcher to the mound. Jon Lester gets the start and is having a sensational year so far. He is 11-2 with an ERA of 2.25 and a WHIP of 1.15. He will certainly be in the All-Star Game next weekend.
The Reds will try and bounce back by sending Luis Castillo to the mound. It has been a rough season so far though for the starting pitcher who is only 5-8 on the season with a very high ERA of 5.53.
Cincinnati continues to play good ball, especially against the Cubs this year so anything is possible. The Reds are still in last place of the NL Central though and trail the Milwaukee Brewers by 14 games. The Cubs find themselves 1.5 games back.
