In what was a crazy day in the NBA, one of the under reported moves was the acquisition of Elfrid Payton by the Phoenix Suns. The former Orlando Magic guard joins one of the youngest and best back courts in the league and adds incredible depth for what may be the high flying future for the team in the desert.

Payton is in his fourth year out of the University of Louisiana where he was a star scorer and raw talent. He was the 10th overall pick in 2014 and has enjoyed steady progress on a bad team. His scoring has increased every year and his shooting % is at an impressive 52% this year which is unheard of for a point guard. Payton is averaging 13 points per game and 6.3 assists. His biggest weakness is his inconsistency from the free throw line where he is only making 61.5% through his young career. Payton’s haters will argue though that his hair style is an even bigger concern ; )

The Phoenix Suns now have a very talented and young guard trio that should give the fans plenty to be happy about. Payton joins leading scorer Devin Booker who is in the top 10 in the NBA with 24.1 points per game. Not too far behind is TJ Warren at 19.5 points per game. The Suns could run a 3 guard offense that could give traditional teams fits.

But all of this talent will be wasted if they don’t get help on the interior. Rookie Josh Jackson is the only other player on the roster that is averaging in double figures at 10.9 points per game and he is far from the physical presence that they need to control the paint. 7’1 Alex Len has largely been a bust in his fifth year out of Maryland.

No team has lost more games this year than the Suns (38). But as they bottom of the barrel are in full tank mode, it will be a race to see who can play the worst to hope for the top pick in the NBA Draft. Interesting enough, the current projected number 1 pick is Oklahoma guard Trae Young. It would not seem to make sense to add yet another guard into the mix of this trio but on the other hand, could they really pass up on Young? Only time will tell.

That hair though 🤣

This was a great move. The Suns don't really care about defense, so he should fit in well :-).

Thanks for information , good job your posting brother @steemsports
