Most of the world reacted when they heard the news that former Formula One champion suffered a brain injury in a skiing accident on December 2013. Michael was placed in an induced coma by doctors in Grenoble, France for nearly six months.

It's been four years since that fateful day, however there may be a glimmer of hope as Corinna Schumacher, Michael's wife, is considering flying Michael from his home to a brain trauma centre in Texas. Dr Mark Meeks, a brain injury specialist at the clinic states "There is probably no clinic in Europe that handles as many cases as we do."

Professor Mark Obermann focused in Neurology at the Asklepios clinic in Germany has told Michael's family and supporters that they should not give up hope as there have been multiple studies of people in vegetative states who have regained consciousness.

He said: “According to a Swedish study, between 30 and 40 percent of patients have regained consciousness within four years.

“Many can come back to life and see how their children and grandchildren grow up, what plans they have or what else happens in the family or in the circle of friends.”

Michael is currently being cared for at home by his wife Corinna, daughter Gina Maria and son Mick.

The 3rd of January 2018 marked Michael Schumacher's 49th Birthday.

A true champion of the tracks. The skiing accident was very unfortunate and I do hope he regains consciousness and bring smiles to the faces of his family and supporters that have waited so long.

A true legend. So many good memories and races that he raced as a true genius. We all hope he can pull through and enjoy life again with that smile.
