The Villanova Wildcats are back in the 2018 NCAA National Championship Game for the second time in three years after beating the Kansas Jayhawks. Villanova led the entire game and won 95-79 to advance. It was one of the best shooting performances of all time and head coach Jay Wright will definitely have his team favored to win another championship.
The start of tonight’s game was fast and furious as the Villanova Wildcats jumped off to a huge 22-4 lead. They were nailing 3 point shot after 3 point shot and the blowout was on. They would set a record in the first half for most 3 point shots mad in a game as well as the most 3 point shots made in an NCAA Tournament. They were simply on fire. 9 different players would make a shot from downtown in the first half and five different players would make at least two. Villanova held a 47-32 lead after 20 minutes.
The second half was more of the same for both teams. Kanas just couldn’t get it going and they could not slow down the long distance shooting from Villanova. The Wildcats would shoot 18-40 from the 3 point line on the night compared to the Jayhawks 7-21. Eric Paschall would lead the game in scoring with 24 points and hit 10-11 from the field including 4-5 from beyond the arc. But the most interesting stat on the night was from the free throw line. Normally the team that shoots 16-20 from the free throw line vs 5-7 would win. But the Wildcats hot shooting from the 3 point line made up for their lack of attempts from the charity stripe.
Villanova will enter the 2018 NCAA Championship on Monday night as a favorite against the Michigan Wolverines. Junior point guard Jalen Brunson will be the best player on the court for Villanova and Michigan has no one to check him. And their bench is just too deep for Michigan to pull off the upset.
